that's why I play full time support, but supporting auto attacking carries is painful.
I'd say support is the worst way to try to a make significant impact on the game unless you know your teammates can carry their weight. The best method to "solo wins" is to play a really dominant mid on a hero that has a very strong midgame when farmed.

I think that depends largely on skill level. For me, running a Night Stalker or QOP mid is a coin toss, at best. It's probably closer to 70/30 against, that I'll significantly impact the game. I agree, if you are good with those characters, you can dominate a game to the point where it doesn't really matter what your team is doing.

If you want to win every game of dota2, just pick nyx assassin and mid or feed. Once level 6, gank the support on the side lanes and get super fat and then just end the game by destroying everyone.

Whats up with this new performance bar?
Seems like its strictly based on win rate, this information was already easily attainable.
The other system was flawed, sure, but this one is useless, might as well drop the performance bar all together and just let us have more statistics available for personal viewing.

There's been a hero performance bar since the dawn of time and it's not based on W:L. However, since I haven't logged in for the past few days, perhaps there's a new "player" performance bar?

Anyone else running into an issue with patches not auto-starting? I have to manually initiate an integrity check to force the patching process. Today's patches were the first time I've run into this.

Merlini just posted on his facebook wall:
Apparently I can cast any game I want on Dota TV....

From Tobi's post on joinDota: "The current rules of the DOTA TV ticket state that there is no exclusivity with the ticket, meaning you may do whatever you wish with your ticket."

http://forum.gamesports.net/dota/sho...l=1#post280009

So those people bitching about him casting games before. You were wrong.

Yah I had to restart steam a few times for it to even register for both the patches.

Well, as long as you cast a game from tournament sponsored by twitch.tv, where they gave exclusivity to some casters, twitch can shut you down, so... Versuta deserved it though for all the shit he is doing.

I don't mind Merlini doing it, but Tobi's post has a lot of good points in it. Its bad for casting as a whole if everyone does it. You take away too much of jD's business(or any other caster) by streaming THEIR tournament and it won't be a business anymore.

The whole "needing permission" thing that Tobi was talking about seems like a pain in the ass but I understand that as at least a short term fix.

What's with every Rubick in a pub? Like zero percent of them ever steal anything useful ever.. I don't understand it. This guy was like "If I get Ravage I'm just gonna get two shot why bother".. I tried to explain that it would help the team even if he did die, but he wasn't having it. Sometimes it bothers me when people tell you to learn to play and offer nothing after saying that, but holy fuck, how are you that dumb?

People will just say anything to cover up their shitty play. The dude probably sucked too badly to even think about stealing ravage at the right moment so he was grasping at straws to justify his weak play.

Well the problem is its ingrained in people that if you die 1-2 times early its GG, so you develop people who just want to have 3-4 mid and dance under mid tower and not farm because they don't want to die.

If they can't region lock this game they need to put "foreign" players that go onto a server that isn't theirs into the LOWEST skill bracket. Tired of BRs fucking up every game I've played this past week. Especially in AR when I don't have the option to choose a carry.

Most games are stomps because pubs give up immediately when they get behind. If they even try to win, they are terrible at playing from behind. It doesn't matter how balanced the teams are from the get go; A few lucky breaks in the first 10 minutes, and now one team is 5 kills and a tower in the lead. At that point the losing team has to dosomethingto turn the tide, but pubs rarely ever do. They feel underfarmed, so they stay in the same lanes they lost in the first place, but now with a significant gold/xp disadvantage, which leads to more deaths. They stop buying wards, because they suddenly feel so poor. More deaths. Etc etc.

Pubs are almost never capable of stalling/stopping the snowball effect. That's why most games are "stomps". It has nothing to do with matchmaking.
That's a generalization and simply isn't true in the vast majority of games. You can easily get an idea when your team is simply outclassed and outskilled versus the team giving up.

It's stupid how much I need to practice last hits and figure out starting gear setup.
It just doesn't seem like I'm improving at all. Or maybe I just don't see it. Frustrating but fun as hell.

Starting items are something that I think are really hard to understand in how it actually influences the start of the game. Many times its about matchups, but also very hero specific. Like when I play mirana I buy 3 branches a circulet a boot and just 3 tangos when I mid, sidelanes I buy more regen. Main reason being that mirana is much easier to get that early last hit momentum with that extra base damage. I never rush bottle with her with a saving strat because the extra base damage is huge on her early.

The second thing about item builds - is also game specific. Melee carries almost always buy battlefury as an opening item, and it makes a lot of sense in certain situations. Its the other times when the battlefury never pays off because the opposing team has very strong early teamfight or there is a second harder carry on the team or your team is just flat losing the lane phase. One of the biggest things that has helped me is just recognizing how my team can win a game, do I have to get a full inventory? does the other team have a better super late game? Can my team defend towers with or without me? Items like drums, vanguard, hood, just the yasha are exceptionally strong mid game items that sometimes are the edge you need and pay off bigger than the battlefury ever would. There is hp / survivability. Bizarre choices like shadowblades or very early mek even on heroes that might not be the traditional item builder work very well in pubs if the timing is right.

I do highly recommend making a private game with no bots, just get some starter items maybe pop a courier, and just count how many last hits you miss in 5-10 minutes. Those early minutes are the most important in any game because they truly set the tone for how your farming will scale over the rest of the game. This both can give you a perspective on what is causing you to miss certain last hits (low damage, too early, to late, poor read on lane control, or poor last hitting under tower) and also allow you to see just how much potential gold is available to you in a 100% last hit scenario. I know for me it was a huge revelation just how much gold exists in the first 10 minutes of laning. You'll see over time the progress of what you expect is good farm. Early on things like a vanguard and treads by 20 minutes is epically good, but you'll realize just how many last hits were missed in such a situation. Treads and a vanguards value of items are more like a 8-12 minute item build in reality.

been playing this for the last 3-4 weeks or so, previously my last experience with this kind of game was HON beta and HON and Dota 1 were only ever at a casual level, so pretty rusty and lots of changes and new heroes since then.

I randomed Wisp on a pub a few games ago, spent most of my time tethered to Clinkz who then went 36 kills 5 deaths...I had more gold from the assists than I knew what to do with. So I thought I would pick Wisp more regularly...honestly in probably 4/5 games of me picking Wisp, asking who wants to lane together and benefit from tether/overcharge I've been left to solo ROFL
