And like a gazillion times lower than BG3 or Elden ring.

Thing is if it wasn't for all the woke garbage and the Dev who doesn't know which pronouns to use I probably would have bought this.

I've probably spent triple on pixle tanks in the last couple months than what this game costs.

If you have any love for the series, do not play it ever. Even if the gameplay was like DA:O, Taash was replaced with a male DA:O/DA2 Qunari, and the rest of the characters refrained from talking like current-day 20-somethings from San Francisco, the story still shits all over everything that came before it. There are retcons galore, lazy writing that basically just wipes out Ferelden because otherwise they'd have had to figure out how to import player choices from previous games, and the the 'true' ending is some of the worst slop that anyone ever pulled out of their ass and takes the 'shitting on the older games' thing to an entirely new level.

The game would be still only be about a 3/10 even with all the degeneracy removed. And that's assuming you got the 'everyone dies' ending to put the series out of its misery, and not the hidden ending that comes from some obscure side quest shit. Knock another point or two off if that ending really is going to be canon going forward.

Don't worry, it was painfully obvious this and Dragon's Dogma 2 were just cash grabs on the ass end of the success of BG3 and Elden ring.

Single player RPGs are still on life support outside of Larian and FromSoft.

And with Sony looking to buy FromSoft, it might just leave Larian.

Yeah no, they were made to make money but not because of BG3 and Elden Ring, because that timeline just can't happen when the games have been in development for longer than that. Development started in 2019 for Dragon's Dogma 2(with Elden ring release in 2022), while for Dragon Age I'm not sure when it started but they released their first trailer in 2022, a year before BG3 released with likely 1 or 2 years of dev time before that. It is possible that for DA at least they pivoted to something else because of BG3, maybe, since originally DA was named Dreadwolf after Solas, but it's just as likely it had already pivoted due to the terrible writers they had there and shit well before that.

yeah DD2 is not a cash grab. its.. just a lack of imagination, or ideas apparently.

Also, owlcat is killing it. Bitching about what Bioware has become, while ignoring Owlcat is just absurd.

Avowed from Obsidian is looking decent honestly from newer trailers. We'll see on that one. jury is still out. (wokeness, chasing trends.) Outerworlds 2 is still in production as well.

nevermind indie shit like Drova, no rest for the wicked, and so on.

Owlcat is hardly "killing it". They develop games in a nearly dead genre with minimal competition. To their credit they use their much smaller budget very efficiently but who knows how badly BG3 will have warped player expectations going forward.

I also don't think their "gameplay" systems are all that engaging.

Their stories are verbose as shit and you can tell some English major thinks they're amazing because they can say in 500 words what it'd take someone else to say in 200.

Now, if a game has engaging enough gameplay I could slog through the snorefest of everything else. The issue is that they aren't and I'm usually bored as hell around the 20-30 hour mark.

Meanwhile, I enjoyed all 70 or whatever it was of BG3, because even when the exposition got long or the characters got gay, the gameplay allowed me to push through all that.

I agree that most of what carries Owlcat is developing in an almost dead genre.

verbose English major
You are describing the writing staff at Paizo, Pathfinder modules have always been like that. When I was in a tabletop group running through some modules we joked that everything felt like it had been written by a frustrated English major. Rogue Trader was not nearly so long-winded.

Yeah owlcat is on the right path but wouldn't consider them a Triple A publisher. Definitely Bush league. Hopefully they take a long hard look at BG3 and up their game.

God of War is up there but not for me. I don't really like the puzzle axe simulator part of the game. And the scripted boss fights are rather annoying too.

Let's hope CD Project Red gets back in the sword and sorcery genre.

AAA and AAAA gaming sucks and has sucked since EA, Ubi, and the like basically invented the budgets that make them such. We all know that Bioware died the moment they had to make a game completely under the EA banner and Mass Effect 1 was probably their first AAA game, which got the attention of the EA vultures.

Fuck Owlcat trying to move into AAA. I am more than happy with them staying with isometric type games for the indefinite future and hopefully ducking the critical mass of activists that somehow worm their way into studios to take a massive shit over everything. I would rather see them make some games that I thought were average, like Rogue Trader, than to see them get big enough that EA/Ubi wants to buy them.

I'm just excited to see what Harebrained Schemes does in a post Paradox world. I actually really enjoyed Battletech and thought their Shadowrun games got better each time.

Graft looks pretty interesting.

I prefer ME1

The Unknown then getting hit with this?

Hot take inc :

I think that Sovereign's speech was not only the best in all of gaming, I think it was the best in all of media (TV, movies, books, etc) combined.
