AAA MMOs are still desired, just there hasn't been a real attempt (aside from FF14 relaunch post-earthquake) since SWTOR which failed horribly due to the engine choice made years before, the shitty server choices made at launch because of it, and the rushed release itself. No studio is willing to put the money into it, not even SOE who tried to crowd source it with their Landmark bullshit.

There is definitely a market for them.

Jait Jait Yeah, you and I have little time to play mmorpgs, well I still do in the fall and winter, but dont speak for everyone. I have 2 teenage kids, 16 and 13, and I know they spend more time if allowed on their consoles and PC than any past generation, including us. If allowed to they could literally wake up, play all day into the wee hours of the next morning, no problem.

I gave up hope on the FFVII remake when I learned it didn't have the originals turn-based combat.

Monster Hunter, dark souls, .. have them beat when it comes to real time combat, and the story while good is old
