But, there could be zombies ahead.

I watched this movie over the weekend and enjoyed it. Interesting enough premise, well acted and put together through and through. I think I appreciate this film more for just following through on telling a story, any story, than trying to be different.

idk, those aren't the right words but I hope it conveys my point. All I know is that there were only a rare point or two where my mind snapped out of it and said "hey, that's bullshit". The old British guys getting WW2 timeline wrong being the chief example. Too many movies these days where blatant fuckups ruin your attempt to just be entertained for a little while.

And wtf, I don't remember Emily Blunt being this hot in Looper and Adjustment Bureau. Maybe she just plays this role really well, or kudos to the makeup/wardrobe team.

People who prefer dubbing are the same assholes who see those big electronic notification signs over highways and slow waaaaay the fuck down to read them as they drive under, backing up traffic for miles.
This doesn't happen. It's pretty much only autistic dumbasses like you who even try to read those signs. If we don't watch subtitled movies, why would we fuck with reading the subtitles on roads?

"Traffic Ahead" "I-123 Closed at Exit 5" "Silver Alert Grandma stole the chevvy" flashing in and out at 3-5 secs is while driving down the road is way different than "Xinga Mi said the empire of Grhrashinda has invaded the empire of Gridnala over the capture of princess Mi Xa" while flying through the air and fighting and other flashy cool stuff that's on screen for like 1 sec before the other character responds "Yes, now die!" and a long RRAAAAAAHHHHHHH and more action before they then go back to explaining the plot.. then after they are done fighting and doing all the cool stuff you want to watch- while trying to read the subtitles- they stand on the mountain top in a slow pan.. "so..." ... "yes...." the camera pans "the empire...." .... cut face to face...pan around "then it is what it must be..." and off we go.

cut panface to panface
Fixed that for you.

By the way, just rewatched this the other day, and I still fucking love it. There is just something about it that makes me smile like a dumbass the entire time. And I think I said it back when I watched it in theaters, but I have an unhealthy attraction to Emily Blunt after this movie.

It is different, but it's the same in two important ways. It's writing that draws your attention away from the action you should be focused on, and it's unnecessary. The real problem with those signs is that they try to put too much info on them and I'm never within sight of one long enough to see the entire message. So I don't bother trying. Most would be fine if they didn't spend 50% of their time with all the lights turned off transitioning to the next screen.

I really hate time travel in movies. The repetition that is obviously needed to get the point of certain actions across is stressing me out. The backstory about those aliens wiping out a whole continent would allow for a more engaging plot but they ended up with an insignificant action flick. I think dying (that much!) would affect your mind much more, however Cruise remained relatively unaffected and cool. Everyone seemed way to cool about living at the brink of extinction. If you want to make a fun action flick, why make it so complicated? If you want a complicated, engaging story, why reduce it to petty action instead? Overall a very forgettable movie i have no desire to ever watch again.

I never thought that I lose on any action scene because of subtitles. Considering that during the action scenes, very few dialogue is used, and it is normally screams and one liners. The only exception to this would be a movie like Star Trek, when they are all in the bridge and they are under attack and you have 3 conversations at the same time, in addition to the sounds of explosion. In in those cases, specially when they use technobable, subs are a godsend.

You just described starship troopers with out the time travel, awesome movie but like groundhog day with Bill Murray I have no desire to watch it again as it loses its magic.

The reason they were so calm about it was because the new suits were supposedly superior to the aliens. With Rita mowing down hundreds of mimics at Ver Dunn and having a massive victory for the suits first real combat tells them winning the war should be no problem now. It was a ruse like Cruise said to lure them into a false sense of security.

I enjoyed the movie and the manga both. Each is unique in its own way. Granted Hollywood is going to hollywoodize it and change the original source material to suit audiences but I expected that. Still a great movie though.

the movie was solid. fuck the haters, i loved it.
It's like when I watched Dredd. I thought, "Holy shit. That is the movie that Sly Stallone -should- have made. That was the perfect fucking 80's action movie."

I felt the same way about this one, against all of my initial expectations. Holy shit, that wasn't just better than I expected. That was actually a good movie.

The only weakness in the movie is when he loses the power and it reverts to a standard action movie. But that happens so late that you only notice the shift about 10 minutes after it's happened. And by then, he's won.

It's not in the manga at all, her big fight is in Florida.

I just finished the manga, kind of wish I'd read the book instead. The awful action was kind of distracting, and it might flesh out some of the shit that's just thrown out like it makes sense.

Not that it was bad though, I liked their version of things more than the movie. Honestly, aside from the vague idea of looping it'swildlydifferent from the movie. Like way more than I'd gotten the impression of from this thread. I don't want to spoil it for anyone because it really is worth reading, but don't expect it to betooclose to the movie.

The scene where they meet in the manga, like for real not on the battlefield but after she knows he's looping, is waaay better than in the movie. Wouldn't have worked with the characters in the movie though.

The movie just really didn't focus on her at all. You know fuckall about what she went through really.

In the manga, for folks that won't ever bother with it,
it's not just one day looping for her, but she goes through multiple battles after doing the initial one 200+ times. She learns which Mimics to kill to win the battle and move on. It's really different.
. Also, once the two of them get together they are basically invincible. Not that you can really tell with the art for the battle parts.
