yea he goes...from the intro space. to the long bridge across. to...i think the next top of the stair (or i'm wrong and he skips strait to) the big giant circle at the top. he turns into a real shit head at the top. he ports whenever he damn well feels like it. i had to juke into cover each time because he starts with a hail of bullshit.

I was soaking the arrows on my massive ass shield + magic soak token +all the poise in the world. it wasn't glamorous, but i didn't die. i just had to turtle my way to him and pound him to sand.

i want it whatever that is. I'm a shield connoisseur and i swear to fucking god. the shield you get from the spear commander in literally the first godrick camp. is like...2 (block boost) points worse than a shield you get from late lurnia. and that's only a point or two behind the hideous burning furnace face shield which is obscene to carry, hideous pre-reqs and looks like a crusty turd on your back (i'm not using it). so i've basically gone the whole goddamn game using the basic bitch great shield.

this coupled with using club/hammer/smashy weapons, and only finding legendary greatswords of (int, faith) for the most part. i've been using my "warhammer" and "gilded greatshield" for almost the entire game. i know there's a bigger hammer but i may not want slow boy swing for everything. i also saw a nappy looking hammer, not sure where it's from but i haven't found it yet. i've thoroughly explored....limgrave, lurnia, done a decent job at caelid, and just beat starscourge and went into the eternal city. so i would have hoped to have found a better hammer/mace/flail and shield by now.

I like the night flail, but i didn't want to focus on dex this go-round. anyway i'm done bitching. i'll rest on my heap of amazing and legendary greatswords and wands now.

I love the graphic for the meteor. I actually didn't see it ingame. My first attempt when the boss disappeared I just got oneshot by it without even knowing what happened and the next attempt when he disappeared I just ran away until he showed up again and I killed him.

Shields are usually STR builds, yeah? I have a shield but it's only good for trash mobs, really. I really wish I was good with parry. I've always sucked with parry in Souls games.

Have you tried using Guard Counters at all? They make shields much better to use if you suck with parry.

Yeah, I use guard counter all the time. Probably the only reason I'm equipping that shitty shield.

Buckler parry is way better (easier to pull off) than normal parry too. But it seems to only exist on the starter buckler item and nothing else. Not even an ashes. Really annoying/

Alright, how the fuck does guard counter work? I've been using a shield this whole time, but I have no idea how to do it or what it looks like.

Immediately after blocking with L1 use R2. You'll see a strike with like, wind around it when you swing.

If you want to rely on it you need to be using a 100% physical defense shield otherwise dodge is just better.

I found a rusty anchor and brick hammer early on that look like decent smashy weapons, the brick hammer starts at B str scaling. Found the hammer in stormveil and the anchor somewhere in the weeping peninsula from those creepy looking dudes with wings.

Dunno, I've done 2h guard counters before. It has its place.

guard counters are strong and fast, using it when you have an opening even without 100% phys def can be really good. Using it has the same problem as other counterattack approaches, you lose the initiative and have to wait for the opponent to attack. This is unavoidable in tough fights because if you initiate you'll get slapped.

I'm probably unwilling to try a shield-driven spec but I wouldn't mind seeing a vid of someone who built around guard counters.

I must have missed the brick hammer. i had the anchor but..something about it annoyed me. maybe i should try it again. i've been inclined to wait for the 'next big thing' since i'm later in the game.

I play greatshield full time and it's...a mix. you keep the shield down when you are unsure. let loose of it when you need stamina and bring it up in time to block blows. push in close. figure out how many attacks a foe makes. guard counter on the last one. or just estimate that you can eat a hit to start your combo to break their stance. most of my attacks are guard counters. leap+heavy, heavies when a foe overcommits. and when their guard is ready to break, i'll do wild-swings.

I can effectively block well enough that it's a matter of making sure i spend time actually doing damage. some foes like starscourge naturally, his mega arrow, and huge attacks will still hurt me and do knock back but...i'll take. i dunno, like 30 hp from it. it's mostly a 'loss' in time wasted having to re-close.

you get an item from the Ranni quest line that literally flips the whole tower upside down when you enter. I had the item with no idea what it did and unknowingly placed it at the beginning of the tower and I was walking around on the ceiling.
