Yeah this is definitely going to be the advantage if you've been wanting to enjoy From games but disliked getting your ass pounded by one of the bosses. While at the same time being trapped in the more linear nature of the game. Finding shortcuts to unlock and stuff is not always super clear and I totally get that fighting back to the boss after losing a bunch of times completely sucks.
Given there were ways around that in all of the games (grind up levels and stats before trying to advance or finding out the weaknesses of bosses) but they are not super obvious sometimes.
If you can just get on your horse and run off in some other random direction to do something else that will make the game way tolerable. Seriously this game has all the indicators of being more like Breath of the Wild if it was made by From Soft in the fashion of Dark Souls III rather than any of their other games. Sekiro would be the closest in terms of openness and it was also the most different of all the From games.
