Just pre ordered. Went with the PS5 edition. Only have a 1080GTX and have a 4k 75"tv as my monitor. Can't run 4k settings on new games with my PC and when I go 1080p, the image gets very washed out compared to 4k. Will probably get the PC version later down the line when I've upgraded. If mods come out and such that won't be available on the PS5 version.
Also pre ordered Horizon. So Lost Ark until the 18th, then 7 days to beat Horizon until the 25th. Asked for the 25th off since I know myself well enough that when it unlocks at midnight to the 25th, it's probably going to be 2am before I've made my character and selected my class, then there is exploring to do.

I'm kind of jealous that you have yet to experience Fromsoft games. My very first was Bloodborne, after avoiding the DS games for so long. After 100%'ing BB, I spent the next month+ going through all the other From games. They really are exceptional. Tough, but fair.

I'm still on the fence on what platform to buy. PS5 is easiest to play on my big TV, but PC is always my preferred platform. I need to test some HDMI shit on PC -> TV. I never really run stuff on my TV from PC, but my TV is much nicer than my current monitor. It's so hard having these kinds of problems in life...

TBH I'd rather just have a marker on the map. I don't got time for all the reading and rummaging around in the grass looking for the Lost Clitoris or whatever. I hope there are mods for that. 20 years ago I would have totally taken the game on au naturale.
I don't know about doped-up speedrunners, they're probably all dropping adderall instead.
Yeah, there's a reason I never played Dark Souls 3. You only get to play these for the first time once, and doing everything there was to do in DeS/DkS1/DkS2/BB was enough to keep me busy for a while. I also still have DkS1 Remastered unplayed...and I think I might go ahead and play that this week instead of Arceus.
Gotta figure out what build I never did in other DkS1 runs. Maybe I'll take on the Catacombs first this time to do something new. This should get me even more hyped up for Elden Ring.

Definitely do that, you want this on the best OLED possible. I'll be playing it on the C1 I got last year, which I still need to get professionally calibrated I think (I did my best to calibrate it myself already, but I also live in a new place).
Open world games aren't usually visually stunning because they compromise incredible detail for big open areas. I think this is going to buck that trend even more than Ghost of Tsushima tried to, mainly by having art direction that is off the charts.
Started my Dark Souls Remastered run in the middle of the night. I think I always went for sorcerers and priests in the past, so I'm playing a Dark Knight build this time and went straight for the Gravelord's Sword at the beginning. Took a few passes since I never tried getting that at the start before, but I got it. Thing is a BEAST. Now I have to figure out what other armor I want for this build, and what spells (if any). I'll move this over to the Souls 1 thread.

Kind of amazing how they did it really.
2017ish, rumours that From Software was developing something new.
2018ish, statements from Miyazaki didn't want to do a new souls game. Wanted to do something new. Worry set in. Not a souls game?
2019, E3 cgi teaser. Elden Ring.... ok. What is it? Rumours that it is open world souls later confirmed in a few short interviews and articles.
2020, Nothing except some leaked pictures.
2021, trailer featuring gameplay. followed by a 19 minute gameplay trailer.
Then that is it. That's all the things From Software did before they sent invites to people and journalists for the network test for 72 hours with a 30 minute limit on discussing everything they wanted about it. Then they released the network test for the masses.
At the end of the year the story trailer released.
2022, Interview tour along side with invites to streamers and journalists again to play for 10 hours with few restrictions. Embargo for that dropped over two weeks before release.
There was massive hype for the game before people got their hands on it, but that's due to the name of the developer. Imagine if CDPR, which also had a fairly stellar reputation, had done the same with Cyberpunk. Short trailer, then let people play the first parts of the game. Of course they didn't because it would have been a disaster for them. Instead we got the months and months of "features" where they hyped up their own game. Trust us, its good!
From Software on the other hand just released the bare minimum of trailers, then went "Hey, you play it and say what you think". Instead of going full on marketing with it they figured all they needed for further marketing was to let people play it. 3 minute teaser. 3 minute trailer. 19 minute gameplay video. That's enough, you do our marketing now.
If we go back in this forum for big releases for the past few years. How many of them are pages of talking about what the games "might" be, waiting for the embargo to be released at the same day as the game to learn what it is actually like?
For this people actively avoiding spoilers from the myriad of videos and statements from people who have already played lots of it weeks before release.
Don't think I can remember a developer that's been this confident in their product before.

Do any of you play these offline for your first play through? I’ve never made it more than an hour into these before the constant phantoms and bloodstain/message spam gets to me. It brings me out of the experience.

If by 'first playthrough' you mean 100% of the time I've played every From Soft game, then yes, absolutely. Phantoms are an irritating distraction, messages are ugly ass graffiti and 95% of them are trolling anyway, summons are for people who need game journalist difficulty, and I don't give a single fuck about PVP.
