Looks like this is standalone (not a DLC) and appears to be more of an ER spinoff with new single-player zones and also greatly expanded multiplayer.
Personally I just hope they finally give us Godwyn as the final boss. Would have preferred if this was another DLC so you could take your ER character into it instead of having to start over. Maybe they'll have a way to do that.

Love love love OG Elden Ring. Made me want to play the 3 Dark souls games (even though I SUCK at them) but the DLC just stomped my ass like DS games did. I have a wife that doesn't understand 'I'm in the middle of a match cannot pause'. So I typically don't multiplayer, as in I don't do it at all. Not sure how to feel about this new one. Need more info.

They are probably using him as a way to test things while they build out more of the enemies/world.. they probably just placed him in there as a easter egg.
Maybe the camera will be fixed for the first part of the fight, I hated how janky the camera was in the 1st phase.

DLC world was awesome but the game experience was sour with the hyper aggro bosses.
What I said was this new Ring might have a parry system in it-- which would make any DLC hate melt since that's what the DLC lacked to balance out the new direction they went in, a hard parry.
That being said, I'm with you on this not being a Day 1 buy based on the DLC direction. I'll need to see more.

Hot mess, or a good time? Anyone's guess, but I'll almost certainly buy and try it. Rogue-like with co-op seems to be the overarching theme, with some RPG elements thrown in.

Yeah I hope this is just a thrown together one-off to hold us over on the next Souls title, probably the first and only FromSoft game that doesn't look like a preorder / day 1 buy for me.

IGN article says bosses from other FromSoft games will appear in this. The game's director is quoted as saying "Their appearances will be limited, Ishizaki said, as they represent creatures that have strayed into this twisted version of Limgrave from other universes."
Overall it sounds like a light exploration/horde mode game.
Article states: "Elden Ring Nightreign drops up to three players into a condensed version of Limgrave from the main Elden Ring and tasks them with surviving. Enemies and structures are procedurally generated to allow for a varied experience, with players encouraged to battle to grow stronger and survive the night, when a boss appears.
Surviving three days and nights spawns a major boss for players to take down, and the game has eight in total for players to conquer"
