I refuse to respec to kill Malenia
Why?

One of the things I like about going through the game with limitations is having a driver for using new game mechanics I previously ignored to defeat tough bosses. For example I didn't use parry a single time until my new playthrough where I pretty much had to use it to defeat the crucible knight at the level I was at.

I want to get all the way through the game as a caster, and then I want to go through it again as something else 🤷‍♂️

Malenia down.

Equip Shabiri's Woe Talisman which gives you boss aggro in multiplayer, summon Mimic Tear then replace the talisiman with something else. Now the Mimic draws her aggro and you can attack.

Mimic will die so it's a DPS check to kill her before the Mimic does. You still need to get gud doding the P2 transition attack, any aoe and the occasional attack that does come your way. You also need a bit of luck with your Mimic connecting a few attacks.

Now I'm on Elden Beast, fuck this thing.

the trick to Elden beast for me was getting the dodge timing down on the arcs he wings at you (as many as 4 in a row) and simply running away from the other tracking shit he would throw instead of trying to roll out of it

Yeah the final boss of this game is trash, the fight is not fun nor does it have any mechanics that make it enjoyable....its a big AOE health sponge with an opening act that drains you of flasks

I think it would be more tolerable if I didn't have to refight Radagon each time.

That is the most trash fight in this game bar none I agree - the massive size, humongous arena and constant jumping around by boss is just flat out un fun and un cool. I actually liked Radagon well enough but the beast was just a poorly designed fight imo.

Man, you guys were not kidding about the difficulty increase at the end of the game. It really lulls you into a false sense of security before Farum Azula and Haligtree. I'm paying for all my lazy habits in the earlier game.

My least favorite fight was honestly Godfrey before Radagon. Arena wide AoEs that essentially one shot you (no time to recover before the next attack hits) just frustrate the shit out of me. His phase 2 is much easier than his phase 1 but at the point in the game when I fought him I couldn't do enough damage to even get him to phase 2 for like the first 20 goddamn attempts. He was even more annoying than Malenia for me

First try of the day on Melania. Roll the wrong way on her first combo and she heals to full. Stand still for reset.

Edit. I broke down and used the Mimic Tear for the first time ever. I went and got it to +10 and one shot her. I feel like a failure.

I cannot stop playing this game.

I'm at NG+3 just trying every weapon and every spell and ash of war and shit and doing dumb shit.

I fucking love it.

The holy resist talisman in the blood palace zone that's west of the big bird you can exp farm is great against the final bosses. Its especially good against those multiple laser attacks from Elden Beast.

Elden beast wasn’t really hard, but I agree that it’s one of the worst boss fights. Stop running away bitch

Elden beast sucked as melee. His weak spot is his glowing chest area, but the arena is so large you have to chase that fucker down whenever he went airborne or rolled his way to the other side. It was a complete pita. The saving grace was that he was still manageable as long as you stayed behind him near his tail as much as possible until you could stagger.

With Melania I got super lucky on one run where she somehow got stuck next to the wall in some sort of crevice and never really moved from there lol. Shitty way to win but I'll take it.

Tip for coop, your flasks round down.

In my world I had a 3/5 split of crimson/cerulean. Cooping I ended up with 1/2.

Swapped my loadout to 2/6 and then in coop I had 1/3. I was losing a whole flask having both of them round down.

So now that I am currently stuck on the last boss I am feel I can at least give my overall view of the game, it is really a fantastic game marred by some pretty bad ideas in places and these flaws are pretty glaring when set into an otherwise well made game.

The game world is expansive and well made, exploring was fun for most of the areas and I was always excited to see what came next. The castles and "dungeons" felt really good and were interesting to run around in. There was a nice breadth of weapons, armors, and talismans to really cater to your play style. The addition of Torrent and mounted combat was an interesting mechanic and certainly was not bad for their first go at such a thing in a soulsborne game. The story was actually there, sure it was still a confusing mess byt you actually could piece together tidbits so you had an idea of what you were doing, why, and why the world was the way it was. There was a good variety of enemies which kept things interesting and did a pretty good job of introducing harder enemies earlier on in the game to give you a bit of a sense of danger. There were some really awesome and intense boss fights in the game with perhaps my favorite fight being Radahn.

The problem is that with such an expansive world where you try and fill it with content you are bound to hit repetition. An example of this is the reuse of many bosses in various areas just with larger health pools and hitting harder or putting 2 - 3 of them in a confined space. Many of the tombs and caves eventually felt all the same and some were longer than they needed to be. The number of grab attacks and effects that would go through shields and deal massive damage was ramped up to 11 and seemed unecessary on many boss fights. Far too many enemies with near infinite hit combos and or delayed attacks to bait you into opening up before wrecking your shit. Being a defensive shield user it felt like a cheap move to give us guard counters and then make it nearly impossible in most cases to use it on a large number of harder encounters due to their attack speed. There were times when the controls felt unresponsive or would do silly things which caused me to die more than I would like. Fuck dogs, large plants, the large birds and dogs, crucible knights, and those undead dudes that would grapple you.

So overall it is a great game but the combat and some boss designs left a lot to be desired. My thoughts would be fewer big bosses with more unique move sets instead of more bosses who are mostly just "jump, slam, AOE, grab, move far away"

So I'm very slowly playing through NG+, and I found something really strange with Redmane Castle in Caelid.

I fought through the NPC skirmish happening on the beach next to the bridge west of the Castle approach, and there was a teleporter there. I took the Teleporter and it dropped me near the main boss fight where you fight 2 bosses, one a crucible knight and one other. Anyway, the bosses weren't there this time, and it was basically setup with the NPCs for the Radahn fight.

I'm wondering if this is just a NG+ thing or did I somehow skip a bunch of content?
