We actually did that in the open beta. You could just keep moving bases up and destroying old ones and the buildings would remain. At one point it bugged out and stairs became invisible so we were using torches to mark the walkways up. Hit the sky box which is very, very, VERY high. Like 3x of that first tower. It was pretty awesome gliding down and landing on top of it.

Definitely really cool. Didn't buy the game yet because of mutlipayer progress shit. Also sounds like it's like 1/3 done in terms of content, but hopefully they can finish some of that stuff and I'll definitely be playing with some friends.

I am wondering if it is a good time to jump into this game or if it would be better to wait until they come out of EA. Looks like they have some cool stuff planned but I question how replayable it would be given that the map is hand-created.

decent amount of content as is. $29.99 is a decent price. it was 10% off during spring sale.

its not as boss fight progression focused as Vrising. it is more exploration focused. so yeah, not as fun on replays. While vrising's exploration is pretty limited, its heavy focus on gameplay means replays are pretty fun still. the lack of proc gen also means, going to lack replay int hat regards.
I think its fine as "play, come back to the same world/char, play"

Great game, buy it now before it leaves EA. I wouldn't do a play through now though, sit on it and wait for a complete experience. This is not to say the current content is a bad experience however waiting until the map/level cap is raised would be largely beneficial.

Major patch hits today.

New playable area: Albaneve Summits
New level cap and crafting tier
Dynamic Weather
New Townsfolk
  • Townsfolk now wander, sleep in beds at night, and engage with the Flameborn.
Farm Animals and Pets
Visual Update and Scene Rendering
  • The game can now be paused in single-player mode.

tons of major stuff I didnt copy/paste as well.

twitch drops for this update. pretty cute actually.

Villagers, farm animals and pets
  • All 7 crafting NPCs now have a day- and night cycle in which they explore the base, inspect interesting locations, take breaks, talk to nearby players, and go to sleep at night. Either on the floor if the player decided to not provide a bed for them (a disturbing number of you) or in a lovely, dedicated bed just as they deserve.
  • Crafting assistants have been added to the game. When found and unlocked in the game world they can be placed in secondary player bases, offering the same crafting options as the crafting NPCs.
  • Townsfolk villagers have been added to the game. Similar to the crafting NPCs, villagers roam the base, offer dialog options and new quests and follow a simple day-and-night cycle.
  • Freed villagers will offer more knowledge about the world and give the Flameborn numerous more quests. As a reward for your help, villagers will help you find more villager souls, help find lost pets to bring home, uncover vanity items for that extravagant look while exploring, and collectible items to decorate the halls of the Flameborn’s home
  • For every type of farm animal there is now craftable food and bait. For more information, talk to Emily Fray, the farmer.
  • For every type of farm animal there are now sleeping and feeding props that can be crafted by Emily Fray.
  • Farm animal feeding props are inventories that only accept the designated food items for the animal type that the prop is for. When the animal is hungry and can reach the filled prop, it will automatically take food from the stack.
  • Farm animals produce different types of resources at regular intervals as long as they find food and shelter when they need it.
  • When there are two animals of the same kind within reach of each other there is a chance that they have offspring. Both parent animals need to have access to food and a sheltered bed, and a free bed must exist for the offspring.
  • Only one offspring can be born per night in each player base, even if several parent animals fulfill the preconditions.
  • Animals can be petted. It makes your character feel warm and fuzzy inside.
  • 8 new pets have been added to the game, consisting of 5 dogs and 3 cats. Quests lead the player to the locations where the pets can be found and tamed in Embervale. Once tamed, they can be picked up and placed into a player base where they will roam around and let themselves be petted.
  • The taming difficulty can be set in the difficulty settings of the game world.

I'll be checking this patch out for sure. I had been playing Conan Exiles again with ITS living world/npc update. which was actually much smaller. but, I hadn't played conan in some time, so there were tons of other conan updates I had missed. (despite magic/sorcery being one of my launch major desires, I never did go back when it was added)

After trying Dark souls again, and being annoyed/pissed off at the controls, I really am struck about how much better and more intuitive Conan is to play. bannerlord, monomyth, skyrim, etc as well.

I really liked both Moria and Enshrouded. Much more freedom and base building in Enshrouded, better Story in Moria (imo).

Yes, the story is really good. All of the building I have done has been pretty simple; just shore up an existing room to meet your needs. It looks like we will have spent the whole last half of the game with a base in the Armory.

There is a lot of love that went into Moria but I have been a little disappointed that they never worked out some of the balancing, resource and scaling issues, imo. All in all, I would give it probably an 8/10. They were pretty close to having a masterpiece.

Would you say now is a good time to start Enshrouded or wait on stuff coming out according to the roadmap?

Theres almost always reason to wait for more polish or updates. I'd say go for it. The story is secondary in Enshrouded. It's more like Palworld or Valheim where exploration, resource/gear(/pal) advancement and base building is front and center.

Anyone has thoughts on this versus Valheim? Valheim has had more time so I assume it has more content(although I remember reading about ppl complaining about lack of updates), I'll probably pick one or the other later on but not sure what's better, or if they're both ok.

This is still in EA for sure. I did check out this new update. and a good amount of new improvements from release. but also, still a good ways to go imho.

Char creation is still not there. the talent tree is very very weak. and doesn't really scale with increased levels, etc. it will HAVE to be redone for 1.0 and higher char levels.

Insanely good/robust voxel building. Easily one of the best. and easy to manage. like, landmark had robust voxels, but was so hard to manage, it was not fun at all. This simplifies things, letting you build houses, etc with relative ease. they've added more decorations, and building materials since release as well. if you are a creative mode builder person, this is probably the best game.

building is only persistent in your base. outside of the base zone, the world resets periodically. so you can't do the cool bridges/roads, etc of valhiem. you can make 8 bases iirc.

combat is weak as well. I think Conan exiles has the best combat system. its nice you can actually be a mage here. but its not very interesting. has auto lock on targeting issues.

The world is premade. but A.I. proc gen was used to create it. with extras added after the fact by hand. its noticeable in places. floating voxels here and there. obvious round brush stroke canyons. Doesnt feel as polished as conan. but, the hand made nature DOES allow for more life and design then Valhiem. theres ruins, theres houses, theirs hidden chests, caves, etc. like out exploring, you might come across a grave site. dig and theres a chest buried.

no automation.

material farming is better then valhiem. imho. its faster. and it regenerates, so you can't run out of a material at a location, and have to move your forward base to an entirely new biome..

If you are really itching for a game. sure. otherwise I'd probably say let it cook longer. I do recommend it. but, again, probably best to wait for release.

I'm playing Conan again atm. playing all the shit THAT added post release.
