Not sure if this has been posted, interview with Terry Michaels. This is about Landmark though, not Everquest Next as the video seems to suggest.

All of the Everquest worlds are part of a multiverse, so they are actually not connected through anything other than an "ethernaire?" which is where people goes when they die. So what we are doing with Everquest Next is creating brand new stories that aren't connected to the stories of any of the other games. We will have familiar names and places and things like that, but are not bound to anything that's come before, nor are they bound by any of the stories we decide to tell.
This is for Landmark, as he states in the end that "It is scheduled to be
releasedthis winter." @ 2:30 listen to how quickly he sounds unsure of what to say, like there is nothing there.
"We haven't released anything about Everquest Next yet, because we have a very strong commitment to collaborating with the community, and making sure that game is as great as it possibly can be, so we are not announcing anything about thatbecause we want to see how and what people like inside of landmark as well"
What does that even mean? ....
I think there is no new information about Everquest Next, because it is all design documents at this point, ready to be developed by their (still developing) engine. This also fits with Smed saying at SOE Live that they would have more to show at next years SOE Live, as "the game would be more developed and fleshed out" (paraphrased). Art assets we are seeing now are being shown as they are created from concept art and placed as assets into the engine.
For Everquest Next, we really need to take into heart the usual line of "This is a developing product. Things might differ from the actual released game" that we often see in early footage from games. Would not shock me at all to know that they already in a matter of days saw the negative backlash against DE models, and lowered their saturation a bit for the display at PAX, no time to change any models, but just a quick fix. Nothing is tied down, everything can be changed. Because this is all graphical at this point. The engine is not finished being built, still missing tons of art assets. The actual world of Everquest Next is neither created and populated yet beyond perhaps the initial landmass they can edit. Game design (combat mechanics, death penalties, actual group mechanics, etc) are not put in the game yet as they are only ideas. They are polling the current market to adapt their core design of Everquest Next to the popular vote.
To me it honestly sounds like they have scrapped the game one too many times, are left with the dev tool (which they are happy with), and are using that to get some revenue in while they are making the actual game (along with us).
