The hardcore TCG crowd dismissed it much like the moba crowd is doing with Heroes of the Storm.

I agree their MOBA looks like shit, but the TCG crowd said Hearthstone would also fail when it was in Alpha, and now look at it.
I meant that no one cares enough of Hearthstone to center a convention around, especially when it's a purely digital game. It's not like you can have local tournaments or play with friends while you're there with some cards.

It's getting pretty big. Not close to SC2 levels yet, but who knows. It's still fairly new.

They don't even have it out on all the major devices yet.

There is a difference between Hearthstone going up against no body in the digital card genre and HOTS going up against DOTA2/LOL and a string of other newer MOBAs (Strife, Smite, Gigantic, Dawngate etc.)

You mean the game with surnames and weather effects and everything people were talking about for a few pages? Yeah, it was great for a few months if you had a good raiding guild (and weren't a warrior) before the japan grind til your eyes bleed treadmill was patched in.

Magic the gathering had digital before Hearthstone, as well as other smaller games I believe.

I'm not going to count out the success of their MOBA based on the hardcore. At one time LOL was considered a game that wasn't going to make it because of DOTA.
Do they have a much higher hill to climb versus Hearthstone? of course.

We clearly value different things in our gaming experiences.

If people don't at least try EQN given the feature set they are planning on implementing, they should probably just turn in their MMO-gamer card.

I think EQN will be fun if you don't go into thinking it will be a Diku type mud. If you like the new type of Sandbox games that are coming out then EQN seems to be very well thought out.

Rofl did you just compare UO to EQnext? haha

If anything it has more in common with Disney Infinity which makes sense since most of their design crew is from free realms.

Sure did bro, that's my standard with which to judge a sandbox. Literally digging in sand doesn't do it for me, I want to see what storybricks and player freedom in terms of PvP, player crime and justice etc has to offer.

Well nothing is going to be like UO was. My guess is they will do very safe PVP, where you have to stay in a certain area to compete.

You can see some of that in there Landmark testing.

The game is pre-Alpha, I get that, that is an aspect of our analysis of EQN that isn't lost on anyone who posts here or survived the great sandstorm of SOELive 2013. I don't think the mechanics of what it means to be a cleric, for instance, have anything to do with level of completion (i.e. clerics do rush attacks and are essentially a warrior with yellow particle effects, and combat in general is a spammy AOE two pump chump affair) . I don't think design philosophy is going to dramatically shift as the game becomes more complete either.

They made statements regarding their willingness to alter things due to feedback over a year ago as well, yet none of those things have been addressed either, nor will they as far as I can see. This will end up as basically Elder Scrolls Guild Wars 2 Online with voxels and an Anime twist, and will probably do very well but it just doesn't send a thrill up my leg right now personally, and probably won't later either despite any level of completion or polish.
Which, looking at the combat videos.. Im curious how large encounters are going to go? If these are uninstanced mobs that would be raid targets by comparison in any other game - how is it going to feel having 30+ people beating on a mob? Especially, when some of the classes that were showcased only showed 1 ability that would feasibly work on a target of that stature. (CC's dont work etc.) For example, that huge NPC that is wrecking buildings in one of the trailers.

Rosie Rapport is the ART DIRECTOR for Landmark; in a Workshop episode, she noted that many people were hiding props to show only the smoke effects, which isn't something they had originally planned for. She recognized this was happening and said that in the future they'd like to uncouple effects from props so that players didn't have to do the workaround.

I don't know where people are getting the stubborn attitude from; she could have not even addressed it in the first place.
Last I checked, Art Directors have a significant say in where the game goes. It seems like in your eyes, you saw that video and only heard of it at that point and time. She looks happy and everything is so wonderful and cheery! Yayyy! (Exactly how I described her in the first place.) But in reality, she had already told forum users that it wasnt changing. Talking out of your ass cause you werent one of the people that hated that bullshit problem. But Im glad you're 100% behind this team and they can do no wrong, though!

--- As everyone keeps stating, its in pre-alpha. But this game is making a lot of people question their direction. Not because they are arm chair developers, cynics, or because theyre stuck in EverQuest 1, but because we've seen these decisions in action in other games and they didnt work that well. Story Bricks, Voxels and how rallying calls have been described is where I think they need to be focusing medias attention. Not this other tripe.
