If nothing else, Flipmode's tidbit about faction-based class-swapping is a reasonable extrapolation of the info we've gotten so far, so it could very well be true.

AND NO POK BOOKS. Fuck. No.
PoK books were a huge part of what made Planes of Power the expansion that hurt EQ the most. Going further than that I would like to see peoples opinions on not having flying mounts in an MMO. While I understand that people like to fly on dragons/birds and it makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside, the ease of travel in these MMO's really alienate the terrain and unfortunately remove all connection between the player and the land.

Dare I say... People need to be kept grounded? ><

I don't like flying mounts. Only way I would be happy with them is if they were for a specific quest or something. But being able to just fly anywhere you want and swoop straight down on the exact spot you want, pretty much destroys the whole idea of travelling and adventuring etc.

I said it before.. I want Wizard/Druid ports back
I once felt this way. Some others in this thread have made a good point about it though. Having those classes being the only ones who can port people around only will cause some people to create alts to do this for them. I agree with people thinking that creating an alt to follow you around and port you is not the way the game should work. One character per server would fix this problem though. Alternatively, there could be a very limited transporation system in game. Maybe just boat/train that can take you to major cities only, or wizard/druid guilds that you pay a hefty sum for traveling.

That reminds me of dying. Dying needs to punish you. I know alot of people think the naked corpse run is too hardcore. Perhaps a system that when you die, you spawn back at your bind point. You have the option of either running back to get your gear, or paying an NPC to summon your corpse. If you use this NPC too often, the price of summoning increases dramatically. XP loss when you die is a must. In order to have a connection with your character there should not be any incentive of just running into shit mindlessly. XP loss would require people to put much more thought into what they are doing.

Anyone want to take a stab at the classes? I am thinking/hoping it will be the original 14?

I always thought it would be better to let the Wizard/Druid trainers port to places like cities but give the players more remote ports.

Yeah. But people will make multiple accounts and just have a druid/wiz alt to port them wherever. Apparently that is too similar to pay to win or paying for a creature comfort. People could argue, why not just put a system in where you could pay RL money to port wherever you want. That is a path we do not want to travel down.

The problem with flying mounts is the implementation. They shouldn't be an easy bypass to content.

If you are going to have flying mounts then there should be flying mobs (remember griffins?) that can take you down. Also ground based fire from enemy cities and watchtowers. Flying should be just as dangerous as being on the ground. Maybe even more so. Have the trade off be faster travel but more danger, or safer travel while sneaking though the woods at a slower pace.

Yeah the implementation would be very hard. Giving people freedom w/o allowing them to exploit it. Hard shit man.

Agree, but all the easy things have been done to death.... (see WoW). The devs are going to have to start actually working if they want our money.

Think how much fun it would be if a dragon was chasing your ass through the sky, burning your tail with blasts of fire. Your only escape to hide on the ground under the trees.

Personally, I don't think it would be fun at all. I want to play with the character I created, not with a mount.

Players are always going to come up with ways to bypass design. I don't think it's that big a deal if players have a pocket porter. not all players will do it. I even want the Evac spell lol

Mounted combat can be fun and it fits very well into fantasy lore. In fact, it should be done much more than it is now. Mounts are just glorified jboots in most mmos. Which is stupid. It doesn't have to be the only play style, just another option. Which is good for everyone.

I think WoW had archers and stuff that could shoot you down. And Vanguard had lots of flying creatures. Sadly they weren't aggro enough, they just followed a few waypoints over Trengal Keep or whatever. If they chased you and could dismount you or something that would be great. But personally I would just do away with flying. Let people travel fast on land, like Bards, that way they still have to fight sometimes, they have to go everywhere on foot, slowly at first, and it gets faster as you get higher level and have already paid your dues.

If it can't be done right then it shouldn't be done at all. So I agree with you there.

But eventually some mmo dev is going to be smarter than the bunch we have now and they will do mounts right (flying, combat, etc). That mmo is going to get a lot of my money.

I guess. Although it fits the fantasy genre, I do not believe it fits the playstyle of a fantasy MMO. In games like Planetside2, vehicles(mounts) in combat has no issues. I just do not think that it fits this genre.

Here's a thought. Make flying mounts expensive, and also make them fairly fragile and allow them to die. Idk, just thinking outloud.
