EQ Never

Dude,

Who cares abt whether Brad is on EQN team or not. He is in freaking SOE. Is it possible for him to just sit down with the rest of the EQN team and talk about ideas during lunch? Hell yeah.

Does that make him "in the EQN team"? Hell, no, but does it matter? Come on.
It only matters to the serious EQ 1 players who want to see the same game remade, knowing it never will be, but any chance of him influencing or working on it is a sign it may not suck.

My interest is piqued, but I have a real hard time believing any marketing Tweets from Smed and the like. Looking forward to the reveal in August though. I like the idea of open Eve-like zones to build and battle on.
I feel pretty much the same. I'm intrigued, but at the end of the day it's still SOE with the same ding dongs running the show.

I'm not sure if Smed has actually figured things out, or if he's merely gotten much better at the hype train.

What I am trying to say is that Brad definitely has his influences on EQN, one way or the other.

It would be fool to think he go back to SOE after all these years just to play his old toy called EQ.

EQ-EVE is harder to do than just EVE because when you're in outer space, you don't have a lot of art assets to create and place. It would be interesting if they just create a giant space and let people play, though I don't know how fun that would be with mega servers in finite space.
Who says EQ-EVE doesn't have outer space? SOE could have us riding spelljammer-ish ships to Luclin and beyond.

I don't really know WoW history. I never wanted to play it because it always looked dumb. I tried it a few times and didn't like it. I finally got pushed in to giving it a chance and I played I think during Burning Crusade? I got to level 70 I think was the highest level. Took me about 3 weeks to a month. But then all that was left was raids, which I don't really like, PVP which was too repetitive and grindy, and dungeons which I thought were really dumbed down. I couldn't wait to get back to EQ. So I quit, after 1 month.
TBC dungeons dumbed down? I'm guessing you were running normal mode instead of heroics, then because (at the time) TBC-era heroics regularly ate PUGs and the less...ah,co-ordinatedplayers alive.

Also the whole concept of "Daily Quests" really rubbed me the wrong way. I actually feel a bit ill thinking about it. I hate to think of people throwing their lives away on things like that.
Interesting. What's your opinion on people throwing their lives away on grinding their six thousandth AA or sitting in a camp for hours on end for no reward?

I'm with him on the dailies that shit ruins the games. Dailies are the devil they are just repeat quests that serve no purpose but making up for lack of content. We WILL give you a reward for doing stuff you wouldn't ever do on your own because its not fun so basically we will pay you or make you by giving you something after you do it 1000x. Weak sauce.

Dumbed down as in a fucking U or Z or O shaped corridor with 3-4 bosses which took 20-30 min or less to complete. I think that what he was taking about, not the difficulty, which BTW was fucking nerfed in the long run anyway because of all the crying by the typical brainless WoW players.

And dailies suck, no mater how you spin the shit. I would rather do what the fuck I want and get AA, rather than be forced to repeat shitty ass fetch or kill quests over and over.

Are we pretending EQ took skill and was hard again?
I think we're going with EQ's duller aspects were less dull than WoW's duller aspects. As noted, you could mitigate a dull camp by camping with friends (social interaction) or if it was a solo camp by watching a movie on TV in the b.g. or wtf.

Well.. There certainly were Better players. I thought some bards had mad skills! But I guess it's all in the definition..

So if some of you could have that new 200 million Next gen MMO like EQ. Would you really want the downtime from long respawns and long regen too?

There are a lot of things I would love from EQ in newer MMO's. Not replacing every single piece of gear every 3 months, trains!, some non instanced huge dungeons(/ooc camp check!), and some other stuff. The fucking downtime in EQ is not something I miss at ALL.

A few years ago I would have loved a EQ reskin. But now days I'm so sick of the standard mmo formula that the only thing that would excite me is something totally new and revolutionary.

I will play EQNext and from the sounds of it they have brought some new features to the table, but I doubt it is as revolutionary as they claim.

Who the fuck is taking about long downtimes and respawns?

The conversation was about dumbed down WoW dungeons and dailies vs AAs and EQ dungeons. Keep up, man.

I think that was a general thought not necessarily aimed at the subtopic of note now.

That downtime would be atrocious and flat out wouldn't work in this market. I socialize on vent when I'm in game and Mmos are maybe 10% of my total socialization during the week. Guilds are just common folks that I have like goals with that I MIGHT become great friends with. Rest of the assholes in the world I could not give a half a fuck about 45s of downtime to get to know some pugger. Your skill and lack of idiocy will get a chat with me after.

You don't think long downtime and the fact you could watch a movie in an EQ dungeon has something to do with the conversation? Get a fucking grip.

I don't mind lots of downtime if the alternative is nonstop MMO Hotbar combat. I really did not mind EQ's pace at all, just due to the fact that combat was pretty terrible and it was more about socializing for me. I hate MMO combat and it becomes horribly repetitive to me. When I run a lot of dungeons in newer MMOs I feel like I'm playing an EQ bard nonstop. 1,2,3,4,2,2,1,2,3,4 repeat for every single encounter. Use some cooldowns sometimes. Something more interesting and reflex based (An ARPG like dark souls) I wouldn't want downtime, but with the current MMO hotbar rotation combat in place? Fuck, yeah. Just bake in half of my DPS abilities to autoattack because half the time I'm running G15 macros to spare my sanity. Eq's combat isn't good at all, but I want A) Fun combat (Yet to be seen in an MMO) or B) Much less interactive combat so I don't feel like I'm forced to play DDR whack-a-mole.
