And considering there were like... 4? Out of 30 servers that were PVP during EQ's heyday, EQ wasn't a PVP game either. It would just be continuing the trend~

Don't worry when anyone gives a fuck about which servers were brads favorite well let you know. Well keep you posted on when that effects what kind of game eq was too.

I believe it was Firona Vie that was Brads favorite server. I never played on it, but it had alternate rulesets if I remember correctly.

I think that is a good thing to implement. Servers with alternate rulesets that are tweaked differently compared to the regular PvE servers. I completely agree with seperating PvE and PvP mechanics and tweaks. It is downright idiotic to tweak working PvE skills because they are OP in PvP, and same the other way around.

Make the Zek servers with alternate rulesets with balance tweaks being adjusted for the benefit of PvP and the regular PvE servers are adjusted for PvE content. How that is not the norm is beyond me. Can not be that much more work or require far more designers to tweak PvP and PvE into functional separate servers. Especially if they had separate ruleset servers in 99...

I have always found it strange that all mmo developers do that. I wonder if it's because they don't want to have two separate code branches going on at the same time so they just stick to one and make changes accordingly.

Long quests that you can do solo that reward a BIS loot is cool/good. Spirit Wracked Cord was an investment of time and effort not seen in these here parts in many a year, but that bitch was mighty as hell.
Yes, but only if gear acquisition rate and levelling speed don't make it obsolete a couple hours after you complete it.
I support soloing, if there is the option for it to be also challenging and not only mindnumbing: GW2 has some nice soloable content that can keep one on his toes all the time (and it's not even fully soloable even in the open world, see Orr), vanilla WoW too if you were going to go against elites. Modern WoW tried to put in some interesting stuff, but it feels so artificial (such as the MoP rares).

Dude... seriously, there was Vallon/Tallon/Rallos/Sullon Zek and then there was nothing. PVP has dick-all to do with the EQ namespace.

Why can't they do like like DAOC and make PVE and PVP damage equal? 1 point of damage to a mob is the same point of damage to a player. Do we need to be nuking and seeing 10-20k damage flying around? The number is all relative. It's be easier to balance damage that way and then you could have different skills for PVP. That seems like a far more sensible way to balance a game that tries to do both, IMO.

I wish some devs had the balls to try it. Never experienced that and wish I had. Every mmo gaming experience since EQ has been a letdown. A lowering of the bar, a reset to something less than what was before.

There have been improvements in the mmo sphere, but they have been at the cost of losing everything that mattered. Risk vs Reward doesn't exist anymore. It's all reward with no risk, and it all sucks the Big Kahuna.
Picture this. You had a friend that you recruited to your guild and built up to become the best geared mage on the server. As soon as he gets there he ditches you and begins to hang with the guild you are warring with. You have one friend who is still neutral with him and friends with u. You get your friend to ask to meet him at a certain bank. He arrives starts going through his bank BOOM I pop out of hiding all buffed in shape shift with my bow of blackrock and wtf own the ungreatful mother fucker. Loot a full set of the best gear on the server!!!! What a fucken rush man what a fucken rush.

I dont know about the current state of UO but you can experience gameplay like that in EVE, pretty much from the start even.

lol... All I see is a bunch of people saying stuff and no actual examples of said stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against them. I will play the shit out of their game if it's good. I'll play any MMO that's good. But to post that and point to it like it's evidence of... whatever you're making it out to be is laughable.

you're failing to address the biggest issue of all when trying to create a marriage between PVE and PVP: CC. it's the mezzes, the charms, the stuns and the root spells that fuck PvP up six ways from sunday. not to mention the issues that arise from players having OP weapons and items when compared to others. it's always a cluster fuck when you try to balance the two, and it always will be because tweaking for PvP pisses off the PvE'ers and vice versa.

Guess you missed the "have different skills for PVP" part. Personally, I think PVP is a waste in class based MMOs. It's inherently unbalanced, and good PVP requires just that...balance. You want good PVP, go play a FPS or MOBA and quit ruining MMOs.
