I want to be a dark elf shadowknight...so I guess to be on the safe side, I'll refuse to help anyone, and kill them instead.

Would be cool if you could be a High Elf Shadow Knight - but it took a lot of work to win the acceptance of the Shadow Knights.

This is where I could see themreallygoing back to EverQuest roots, where you can control your character's place in the world.

If it really worked like that, it would totally change how I feel about this game. But I am 100% positive it wont work out like that. I would have been positive even a year or two ago, but since GW2... I would bet a million bucks.

Progression is tiered. It is not level based, nor skill based. You're not leveling up by swinging your sword or getting X amoung of exp. Instead they're making it so you move through tiers and gain abilities/spells ( which you have to go and get somehow ) by accomplishing certain goals or tasks. It'll involve participating in certain quests, doing certain tasks, joining rally calls, etc. They are trying something different certainly here.
How is this different. You go do x , y or z(which involves killing, guarding , delivering) and you get a, b, c abilities. It's no different then go do x, y or z and gain levels to get new abilities or do x, y or z and gain skills in your weapon. It's all the same shit with a different wrapper.

In this you just collect armor to progress your class, instead of exp, skill pts or what have you.

imagine if they limit the servers to say 1500 people per?

... game changer

1. is "gold farming" lucrative with a low population?
2. how long does building this shit take?

If this game didn't have the EQ title attached to it, I imagine the perception would have been more positive.

i can appreciate that they're trying something new, but judging by the art and combat, this just lacks the eq spirit. i would have liked to have seen something like black desert online but a little less korean.

Making it quest based essentially makes 100% of your progress locked behind access quests. Of course you could have multiple ways to move forward, so it's not a bottleneck unless you're fixated on a particular goal. But this does bring up the whole issue of incremental advancement. People could get to a bottleneck and it's too difficult to progress they could log in, fail, and log out, without really going anywhere. If they do that multiple times in a row they might stop playing.

And how exactly do you do something different in this respect? This sort of answer is very subjective. I mean really, in nature, accomplishing anything requires you to do x, y, and z.

I never said you could, merely pointing out this is not some bold move of ideas that are completely news or never been done before.

bc we want eq with our eq

I like the models, the human male really looks like a refined eq2 human straight up. But all that detail etc is lost if we are a zoomed out aspect play, like wow etc

I was thinking just the opposite. I was feeling if this wasn't EQ we wouldn't have even cared due to other major IP's coming out with some relatively hyped games. I really felt this would have been lost in the shuffle.

I think compared to all games with levels it is at least nice to hear something other than grind a million squirrels til your character dings.

I think this reddit post sums up a majority of the people in this thread:
The only people who can't already tell how this game is going to be at release, are noobs.

If this game didn't have the EQ title attached to it, I imagine the perception would have been more positive.
Definitely.

Too many people expecting EverQuest HD, when they've said all long it wasn't going to be that.
That's bullshit. It doesn't have to be EQ HD to please EQ players, it just has to at least have SOME aspects of EQ alive. There is literally zero Everquest in this game. It even has a different theme tune (did the lose the fucking rights to that or something?). It has a totally different art style, totally different combat style, and totally different gameplay. Take out those wizard spires and that could have been a movie of any new Korean MMO.
