So SOE is basically going for truly making this a kids game. As in elementary school age , because that's the only age group overall that "prefers" the Pixar-Disney style Dark Elf to a more "harsh" one. Because if their entire art direction is 100% over the top cutesy bullshit , it isn't going to get them the teenage crowd any more then the 40 year old crowd.

I guess I never expected them to go full ToonTown online age group for EQN.

I think the audience that prefers this kind of style is larger than many people here realize. For instance aside from younger kids, they will also get attention from many female gamers, the weeaboo crowd, the furry crowd, Asians, people of all ages who like Disney or highly expressive cartoon style in their games, and I'm sure there are plenty more. It won't appease the grimdark/realism crowd, but honestly I think they are making a wise decision with this. What I really want to see is just how much of a difference the character creation options will make. We are all making assumptions on how every character in an entire race will look based on a single face.

My niece is 17. My nephew is 14. These are kids that have grown up with Pixar movies and Disney cartoons. They watch anime, play minecraft and the sims. They also have played just about every "next big mmo" that has come out in the last decade; you know, all the WoW clones that all of us are tired as shit of seeing being made. They aren't children, and SOE is targeting them just like they targeted us 15 years ago.

I grew Up with all that shit too, and guess what, that shitty art belongs in the mediums you described, not in fucking EQ~!!!

Also, How long does "OH COOL" last? 2 hours is about as long as Disney can shovel that shit, hope EQN Last a bit longer

See I disagree , my son and daughter are much younger and when I take them to a Disney movie I don't see throngs of teenagers in there to see the movie. There's an occasional exception but it's mainly parents with younger kids.

They could have chosen to not go with the goofy Disney look and would have lost zero of the teenage crowd who's interested in a game like this. I don't think it's much of a population pickup at all other than truly children maybe perking up an eyebrow at the fuzzy wuzzy tiger and dark elf.

My friends have slightly older kids ( I started late ), and they are almost over the Disney phase and seem to be well over the Disney phase before even hitting teen age years.

Again , I don't see 17 year olds packing out my kids Disney movies , and I think if you asked 1000 random 17 year olds which looks better , that concept art for the DE style or the horrific one just revealed , a vast majority would be the concept art style.

Again you are missing the point.
For beauty to exist there has to be contrast.
A flawed thing and a perfect thing standing side create an illusion of beauty by contrast.
Dwarf females are an opportunity for contrast and diversity.
Is it more fun for everyone to be pretty or to come across a ugly dwarf abnormality in a group every once in a while because not many people want to play them?
Everyone being cute is bland.

The art style is fine but it is not diverse enough. When everyone is special no one is special and everything is boring.

Why use the IP if they are going to shit all over the people that love and respect the IP?

Make DE LOOK LIKE DE! If not make a new IP.

I think the art style has a lot of female influence. Not trying to sound sexist here, but aside from the cartoon influence, everything looks like something that is trying to appeal to a female crowd. Like the different target audience you get when comparing Gandalf to Legolas, or Clint Eastwood to Leonardo DiCaprio.

What time are you taking your kids to the movies? I'd wager it's not the late shows.

Also, it's not all that cool to go see "kids movies" when you're a teenager. The teens I know usually watch them on dvd or cable, but they do see them.

Look, none of this is going to matter until they reveal the character creator tools. Right now we're seeing concept art and early models, not necessarily what characters will look like in the game once players get to mess with sliders. If they still look like shit to you when Landmark beta starts, at least you'll know to stay away from EQNext.

I guess character models mean more to some folk than it does to me. I don't think the new models are the work of the devil. To me they're more "meh" than anything. Then again, posters on this board have always been extreme in their opinions. They fucking love shit or they fucking hate it, with very little indifference between. It's actually that which brings me back to this forum and provided me with years of amusement.

My thoughts as well. Nothing I've seen aside from the male dwarf concepts are the least bit appealing to me. This game and the /r/etards deserve each other.
