EQ Never

So I went to a local gaming shop that I frequent (I play MtG) to drink and watch the LSU game last night. On Saturday's they host games such as Yu-Gi-Oh(sp) and Vanguard. I decided to watch a few of the kids(and creepy 50 somethings) play those games too see what they were like. Then it hit me. We are dead guys. Old and from a bygone era. We have nothing that gaming companies want. When you look at MtG, everything about it is made for our type of player. The art, the game play, the thought process. When you watch people play the other games, you notice that the art is much more "cartoony" and "cutesy". The gameplay is where you really see the the difference. Those games are just two people masterbating at each other. Every turn they are doing 10-15 things in 30 seconds. It is made for the ADHD generation. EQN seems to be working in the same way.

It was pretty depressing... or maybe I was just depressed at the way LSU looked last night... either way...
last i checked, MTG was more popular than both of those games, no?

I wanted to reply in reddit that the pax movement demo was absolute bullshit. Then I realized that my posting privileges have been revoked, presumably for up voting Dumar.

Edit: I guess it was for calling LandSeagull a shill in the same thread. I regret nothing.

Am I the only one that thinks the movement system looks amazingly fun?
No, you are not. I used to jump randomly on my night elf druid in WoW just to see how many flips I could get in a row, and I spammed nearly every movement assisting ability in Tera/GW2(War charge etc.) just to get places quicker. Movement has always been amazingly boring to me, and I believe that while it should take time to get places, it should also be fun during the process. The more I see of their system, the more excited I get.

Go play planetside 2 for awhile then come back and talk. EQN and PS2 have the same engine Forgelight and put simply Forgelight is not ready for what they want it to do in EQN at this time. If you think what I'm saying is wrong then how about a argument as to why to back up what you are saying instead of nothing but insults.
They say it's a heavily modified version of the Forgelight engine, whatever that means.

In my experience the only way to get a post deleted in that subreddit or to get banned is to start calling people names. Which frankly doesn't do us any good anyway or get the devs to listen to us.

There's just no chance of this game before 2015. Even rushed, I don't see how it's going to be possible.
Completely agree, and here's why. WildStar started minor development around 2005, and real development in 2007 so we'll start with that. It is now late 2013. Six years of development time for a game like WildStar, and they just extended the release date to sometime in 2014. Given, they did create their own engine in that time, but I believe they have double the size of people on their dev team. Around 200 I think? Not sure where I read that, so take it with a grain of salt. Most of these guys are former devs and have many years of experience with MMOs.

World of Warcraft development started in 1999 and took roughly 4 to 5 years to complete, including testing. GuildWars 2 development started in 2007, and the game released August of 2012. Five years later. I could go on and on with these games. Just to put things that you all already knew in perspective.

I'm seriously interested in what kind of magic they're going to be pulling out of their asses to get this ambitious game to launch without stranding us in Landmark for a few years.

It was a mistake, but I certainly don't think it was any different from the redditors calling naysayers various insults insinuating that we are out of touch and foolish.

A white knight has appeared from the land of reddit!
Not at all dude. SOE needs to get its shit together but how the fuck are they going hear what they need to change if the only people who seem to give a fuck got themselves banned from the only forums they seem to read?

"Well, EQN sucked ass. Why didn't you speak up and see about getting things changed?"

"I tried! But there were just too many rabid fanboys and I really wanted to call them a cocksucking faglord instead of actually making well thought-out ideas for SOE to read!"

Sorry but if this game turns out like shit its not the fanboys' fault. Its the fault of people who want to hide from the fanboys or act like Xbox Live fucktards instead of getting SOE to fix this shit.

They get away with it precisely because they are "insinuating" and implying instead of outright calling someone a name. That's the smart way to do it, because then if the moderators start banning or deleting posts for mere insinuation, people would bitch up a storm about overmoderation. You could try asking them to unban you. Buddy of mine got unbanned that way.

I guarantee they read this board.

However, I'm guessing somewhere on the walls in the black box, a list of rules exists.

Number 1 reads 'do not post on rerolled.org' signed, Aradune

You aren't wrong. Unfortunately, I feel pretty depleted of my energy to devote to a game that just clearly isn't being made for me. The movement demo was the last straw. I'm just looking for something a little more realistic and I had thought EQN was going to be that; it is now clear that it is not. And that's ok I guess, I just am bummed that they're wasting the EQ world on this title. It's quite clear that this game isn't going to do a 180 so I suppose I will just root for the Storybricks stuff to be a success so that somebody making a more mature game will poach it.

That reddit shows exactly what's wrong with the internet. For all the great things that could happen with instant, mass communication, none of it hardly ever does.

If any dev in their right fucking mind thinks a poll asking whether pirates and ninjas should be in the game is helpful or useful in any way shape or fucking form, then they're even bigger morons than I thought originally. Did it help the design of WoW that they had instant feeback from their players? No, it made WoW all the worse if they even did listen to them.

They use that medium as a PR funnel, calling it 'communication with the players' when it's really just a never-ending reach-around with paid shills or truly blind, ignorant fans to build hype for the game: the idiot posters get their egos stroked, and the devs use that stroking of ego to construct their little grassroot hype machines. Twitter is the best tool for this in the history of mass media because no fucking real, meaningful communication ever goes on, just quick 2-sentence blurbs that provide no depth or detail. Any depth or detail gets drowned out in the sea of 'mass communication'.

The best games, the best anything, have been made when people, when truly creative people, made the things they themselves wanted to make, with no outside influence, be it marketing, bean counters, or idiot players.

If you locked Aradune in a room with non-retarded engineers and animators and some coke, I can say he would probably make a great fucking game. If you put Brad on a team that included marketing and PR parrots, other idiot designers like ponytails who 'listens to feedback', then he would make the same shit that EQN will likely be.

this game won't release until 2016. hopefully by that time blizzard will realize that EQN is no different than every other pile of shit that's out right now and make something completely different (did i just write that?). now that would be the very definition of irony. the company that started the WoW clone era, ends it with something new and spectacular.

I agree completely with this. It is a PR system to add polls and use the internetz.. Also, aradune can make good things in games, just not lead them.....

On a side note, I really don't care about the polls or what they say. I only care what they do. If EQN:L allows us to massively and quickly build their world for them, then so be it. If it allows us to test their engine and potential game play, then so be it. All I want is for EQN to have some semblance of EQ and to be challenging with as many rule sets and servers for PVE and PVP alla EQ1 as possible. I would prefer it not be "Timmy easy", but alas, the entire MMO industry has realized you can make tons of cash making games accessible and easy. All I can do is wait and see.

Oh ya, are they talking at PAX again today?

Nah. I mean why the Brad worship? He didn't write any of the areas you love. He didn't write Guk. He didn't author iAD&D, graphic edition. He lifted ideas from sojurn and tweaked them. And that's perfectly fine. That's competence. He dun good. It's not exactly genius.

If you put Brad in a room with competent engineers and a mountain of powdered vicodin what you'd get is an absurdly giant overland map punctuated here and there with little caves and occasional visually interesting landmarks. You would get entire systems of needlessly complex mechanics that interfere with each other and are completely redundant once you realize how trivial it is to min/max. You would get an unregulated, marginally stable clusterfuck. Admittedly, it would probably be an interesting clusterfuck. But you wouldn't get a game.

Id gladly take brads monstrosity over butlers game he is making for my 4 year old apparently.

Any chance we can get landseagull here ? I'd love to see him on a forum without SOE mods high fiving him and deleting any arguments agains him.

Entertainment value would be high.
