I don't want "wackamole" but I do want something better than what we have now. The whole rotation / ability bloat, while waiting for your next cooldown thing is bullshit. One of the worst examples of that is Rift. And all of it is an extention of the same tired old mechanics we have had since EQ/WoW etc. Everything about mmo combat should be blown up and rethought.

Some games have tried and have had limited success. GW2 had some good ideas but didn't take them far enough, I like some of TSW's ideas too, also TERA's. But we need more companies to realize that while the existing model may still pay the bills it is a dead end.

But even more annoying than current mmo combat is the fetch it quest model. I'm done with it. I log into mmos less and less because I don't want to run around like a fucking errand boy bitch. I have better things to with my time. Oh and I just loooove looking through my inventory and spending half a day figuring out what is what.

Stream line the whole process and get me to the meat of the game faster. And that doesn't mean I want a lobby instance game, for you fukwits who dont' understand what I'm talking about.

Most Mmos are old, stale and stupid. They are almost all the exact same game with different art on top.
All I think when I read this is how the evolution of these games went from primarily grp based to primarily solo based and when that happened all the suck began.

Even some old mechanics like collect 5 bear balls gets more interesting when you have to delve into a dungeon with a group to acquire said balls. MMO gameplay has always sucked compared to single player RPGs yet now it is even more suck because it has had nearly the only interesting part (ppl) not required for anything.

tl;dr yes, modding for aesthetics. guarded no, modding for significant information advantages.

The video is a good one to watch. I expect plenty of hyperbolic stupidity from the majority of you, but I think this was a triple-A response. They said all the right things in the video, but the devil is in the details and we have virtually no UI elements to directly comment on yet.

The stance they've taken is the one I wanted them to take; Make it look the way you want, but fuck anything else.

Depends, if they have a combat log at all, there will be dps meters and those meters will be setup so you can copy/paste into chat. Just like original EQ.

what does a dps meter have to do with anything? it's much more like questhelper, boss mods, dynamic health frames, auto-cure, etc.

dps meters just force accountability on players to know their class and developers to balance the classes.

we had dps meters in EQ too, they just sucked, like the people that oppose them.

Could be that you do it without worrying about a specific meter , using your own judgement , and get the mission done anyway.

Course some people live and die by them and need them for their e-peen.

MMOs are entirely about e-peen. Gear, levels, dps etc, its all about "having and being the best".

Because damage will be directional and proximity based, I'm not sure there will be group dps charts in chat. Without tab targeting, will it be possible to see any damage done that isn't yours? How will your UI see what others are hitting and targeting?

Oddly I've never played worrying about if the dps in the group did the maximum possible , or if I had every single piece of elite gear max'd as much as possible , it's simply been the enjoyment of a virtual world setting.

There are many hours I've spent in open world PVP when it got me no levels , no gear , no super points to be proud of , but for simply enjoyment.

I'd hate to play mmo's worrying about my dps and gear score constantly.

If you get the dungeon done and enjoy it , that's enough for me , not everyone is a "you have to have gear X score" to get in our group. If min/max is your thing and end all be all ,good for you , but it's not everything to everyone.

There are actually friendly adults who play the games just for the simple enjoyment of them.

Uh the same way every game does? Via combat logs. Has nothing to do with locked target or not.

I don't ever want to be put in this situation again.

-Millions of addons installed to keep up with the crowd
-New game update
-Millions of addons broken from update
-Search for, wait for, and install updated addons
-Re-configure or re-arrange millions of UI elements each time

The millions part makes me laugh.

The rest depends how its setup. EQ UI addons broke all the time each patch and had to wait for fixes. Test servers help a lot as modders can get updates done and ready for the moment a patch hits.

Also easy way to not get in that situation, don't use them, just go default.

What's wrong with hyperbole when it's used correctly?

How did top guilds put together raids that were so successful with so few players before EQ DPS meters? You make it sound like dps meter analysis was mandatory to get together a successful raid guild, when we all know that is not the case.
