As I said before, way back when the announcement was first made and the grognards shit the bed, SOE gets a bit of credit from me for going "Hmm. Copying WoW doesn't seem to be working. Foranyone. Let's try something different". Not much, mind you, but a little bit - just enough to go from "EQ3 laaaaaaaaawwwl" to "Okay. Show me what you've got".
Sure, but that's not a really amazing statement. A chimp should come to that conclusion right now.

Wait, how so?
Tribes 2 was a disaster and the community had to step in to make the Classic mod. Basically he made some bad design decisions that royally pissed the Tribes community off. Dynamix never recovered. He also made some questionable design decisions for PlanetSide, but that may have been SOE's doing.

You realize EVERYONE will be able to be a healer, right?
Kind of like with FF14, where everyone can be any class ?

Tank Queue: 0 seconds
Heal Queue: 4 minutes
DPS Queue: >40 minutes

The idea that heaps of people are temperamentally suited to healing or tanking but just accidentally clicked on rogue or ranger or whatever is hopelessly naive.

They even give *bonuses* to people queuing as tanks, and a player rating system that almost always gives tanks free stuff unless they suck badly.

Yes, sure. Except nobody will need one, so everybody will have to be dps and I saw this movie already: more dps = shorter fights and less need for any form of support. Oh, you're right, they said the new evolutionary AI will change things for real this time, yep! I'll believe it when I see it.
Besides you just had to listen to Butler and his hatred for cleric-like classes to understand where they are headed.

Okay so I want to know what you guys think about the whole ability system for classes are u guys ok that the class you pick is going to determine what type or what number of utility, movement, offensive, and defensive abilities you will be able to use. it seems to me that they are forcing you in a certain direction and calling it player choice.

This also ties into the weapon abilities and the fact that the weapon you carry will determine what type of attacks you can have, and will this also determine what spells magic users will have on their hot bars the way a gw2 did it?

The open "class" system works very well in TSW. It is slightly easier to find a group as a tank than as a healer or dps; never takes longer than 10 minutes to group as the class you want, with a relatively small player base.

If they are following the LoL model of releasing more classes regularly, their setup is very solid as described (keep in mind it's all on napkins for another year). With magic you could argue what makes sense all day because *magic*, but for a warrior type it makes sense that your weapon determines your attack type (cant slash with a mace, bludgeon with a rapier).

Regarding being forced into a certain direction not being choice, I disagree with that. The possibilities have to be different to actually be a meaningful choice. People will still min-max but you have many more near-perfect selections with more restrictions. A nice quote that fits here comes from TCG design, "restrictions breed creativity".

Lame just say you don't allow merchant buy back because items have much higher reuse factor in EQN and you don't want merchant diving to lower prices of items in auction house.

Then you know what just allow merchant buyback anyway because you have zero proof that it will actually harm the game. You're simply doing it because your computer nerd control freak nature based upon a unproven theory you have that doing so may be a good idea.

We can state as a fact that merchant buy back was a good thing in EQ we have zero proven evidence that any game was actually made better for not having it.

Not even close to a feature of vanilla EQ that I give a shit about, thankfully. Added like 0.1% fun to my experience.
