They did say combat was influenced by MOBA's so this shouldn't surprise anyone, the animations and spell effects are going to be way over the top and flashy.

I want to see an MMO that has animations more like this except with less flailing arms:

That actually looks pretty cool. I wonder if most of that is action based or if those are dice rolls causing dodges and parries and stuff? I prefer that.

I'm not that big a fan of the action-RPG style of combat mmo's have taken on today where you're like constantly re-positioning yourself and trying to aim at people like an FPS. Ugh.

Timescale of character abilities has certainly changed considerably over the years. 15 years ago people used spells that had casting times of 6-10 seconds in combat and many did not even know what a Global Cooldown was. Now if you aren't constantly moving and activating a new ability every second it feels sluggish.

It boggles my mind sometimes that whole classes in the original EQ didn't have "spells" or spell-like abilities to activate.

Pretty sure we all wish SOE bought the rights to Darkfall and dropped it into the Planetside 2 engine.
I'm about to hop back into Darkfall for lack of anything better. I tried Archeage for like 2 days but the yellow exclamation points, tab target combat less thrilling than ESOs, and asian sensibilities turned me off.

To piggyback off of Luxer's post, ideally I'd want an exact copy of UO Pre UO:R, Siege Perilous ruleset that looked like this

With Blizzard out for the next however many years I guess this is my only hope for a western developed MMO, at least in known development. Sprinkle some of that magic from your locks and make this one worth playing, Georgeson.

Be careful what you guys wish for. Isn't this isexactlyhow we ended up with TESO? I mean, all the conversations leading up to "I wish someone would make a Elder Scrolls MMO..."

The players always want a Frankenstein: SWG's jobs, FFXIV's graphics, TSW's lore, WildStar's combat, WoW's dependability, etc etc, whatever. This perfect mmo is stuck up in everyone's head so naturally when anything comes out with some of that, it still never measures up.

Seriously, people in the thread are talking/complaining about flash animations which can be easily turned down or cartoony looks and not "Viking realism" rather than core game mechanics and game structure.

Aww come on Jack, EQ:N is shaping up to be Darkfall in Planetside 2 world with terarria digging and league of legends skillsets.

TESO definitely isn't an MMO version of TES franchise. It's not even particularly close. I mean mudcrabs can drop axes in TESO as my primary point of comparison.

Gaia online master (Georgeson) isn't fielding anything too impressive yet though. As others are saying, it's not about toning down animations or spell particles, it's primarily indicative of where their head is at development wise.

I mean did you guys even see the pvp video a bunch of pages back for landmark? Shits like fighting on the moon. rofl

TESO isn't a MMO version of TES, totally agree. But that's the problem; people wanted it to be one because they had the idea of how it should have been that. So when it came out and didn't hit that mark it ruined it. But really wasn't that bad of a game honestly. I gave Resc a lot of shit for defending it like he only saw Jack Merrick and everyone else saw The Elephant Man, but it was okay.

I think EQN will be a decent MMO based on the gameplay vids I've seen. If they can get the Storybricks worked out, then it instantly raises up another class regardless of how blind it leaves you after combat.

I'm just saying that you're going to get a lot of people here because they've gone through the entire EQ mmo progression at some point from start to finish to just want an 'updated EQ' with better graphics and more stability. It was the same with FFXI players who wanted FFXIV to be an 'updated FFXI'.

That crowd who longs for that type of game is gone though, along with sandbox audiences and PvP centered MMOs. Few want to play those anymore they just love the old idea of them.

People here do because of the history but just like Rock and Roll goes through changes and ultimately went to shit, there still are some really great bands as long as you don't keep trying to compare them to Vanilla Stones or Classic U2.

At the risk of sounding like Utnayan 2.0 here I'm starting to feel like this genre needs a baptism by fire. SOE has been doing some good stuff with the Planetside franchise, I hope they do the same with the EQ franchise. I'm not willing to have high expectations for this though after digging through all the keynotes and sampler vids.

As much as I hate to say this, I think we need more Smed on this title. Maybe a little Higby... Idk.
