Was kidding with dudes on hot female toons Jack. Was more of a side rant on my part. Main point being what xadion said, theyre taking the easy way out with armor models and shit cause its faster to just model on one type of skeleton. It sucks the soul out of a character tho.

The term "indirect pvp" around 18:00 into the video made me cry.

I guess to soe pvp =

rrr_img_77340.gif

Player 1 chooses to support faction A
Player 2 chooses to support faction B

Players 1 & 2 fight opposing faction NPCs to determine who wins.

Players 1 & 2 can opt in, or opt out, of a wimpy ass low-stakes game of capture the flag or a timed arena-style "pvp" mission. The winner of which is probably determined by "points".

Yeah I agree when companies cheese models or even reuse the same boring animations like Rift does between classes. The only time I don't consider it to be that much of a problem is when the gameplay is far above how something looks, which is rare.

I promised myself that no matter how screwed up the Next modelsmightbe from what I'm expecting from previous EQ things (miss my EQ2 Ratonga Swashie), I'll not harp on that too much if the Storybricks and gameplay is top notch. I can say that I haven't been too disappointed in the ones I've seen thus far overall. I can live with a lot of what they proposed but F all that if the gameplay isn't better.

You didn't expect every server to be pvp did you? that indirect pvp is still way less careers than most games and I am sure we will get real pvp servers.

Yes let's design a game that relies on tech that's not out yet. Don't quit your day job.
When you have a game development cycle thats 3-5 years how do you not take tech advancement into account? Creslins point was very valid. You have to balance between the tech that is currently out when you start to what will be out when the game hits shelves. In the time this game has been in development intel CPU's alone have seen 3 new microarchitectures and 3 die shrinks bringing clock speeds way up. A 3ghz core to duo is way slower than a new 3gz Haswell clock for clock. Before this game is even launched there will be yet another complete new microarchitecture AND a die shrink making that gap even wider. GPU's have advanced even faster.

I will admit that some games have overshot in terms of system requirements in the past but to say you do not design a game with tech advancement in the equation is frankly stupid.

You also have to take into account the people you are selling too, I bet a good group of people that play WoW have never upgraded their computer since launch. We may upgrade GPUs and CPUs every other year or so but a large portion of the base buys premade gaming PCs from bestbuy and never goes back.

If i was a game developer I would take a look at thisSteam Hardware & Software Surveyand I would make my game that ran straight across the average. FPS games and single player games can afford to push graphical boundaries but when a game requires long term populations they want to hit that sweet spot of accessible hardware.

Ask the Druid - Is SOE??Ts Insider Program a Problem? | EQHammer

Fluff piece talking about the departure of Omeed and how SOE is fucking up by using YouTubers and streamers as marketers with free items. First comment on the article is from Brasse explaining the program.
The Landmark community is pretty much the worst one I have ever encountered. There are just so many fruitcakes and drama queens. Has to be something to do with the 'creative types' that have been attracted to the game thus far.

Wouldn't touch this game with a 100-voxel-pole unless i was doing it with a pre-made guild of bros.

Mistwalkers?

naaaaaa

But seriously. I am liking their approach to this game. They are listening to the people that will be playing their game.

Time will, of course, tell. But I have a little hope.

The Landmark community really is awful. Not to sound like an elitist jerk but man I hope they stay in their little hole and don't bleed over into EQN, or at the very least, their opinions need to be completely ignored. Landmark can be their forever home.

Bro, the soe devs are taking a ton of stuff from landmark and using it's feedback to make EQ:N.

They're going to release a unicorn race at this rate. The dark elves are pretty close already.

their months long claim to the franchise via Landmark trumps your legitimacy after a decade or more of Everquest. You'll play a Fay and emote with your webcam and like it.

Agreed, thought if the forums are any indicator most of the Landmark people would never play EQN they are minecrafters for life.

I doubt it, I really think the "you build the game" is a sly marketing tool to get people to play the game, even from the start I think Landmarks actual creations will be limited to only the 1%

It is in every possible sense, the roundtables, the "open" development and discussion is all PR bullshit. That was even alleged in the Omeed fallout. They're building they're game and charging you to buy user-generated content via a middleman marketplace. Thats all fine, its working and I imagine will be insanely profitable. While I don't agree with many of the aspects of design or decision making I've seen thus far at least its striving to be different from the typical MMO forumla, even this all started with a dry erase board of successful games like Minecraft and MOBA and some suit wondering how do we shit all of these together for teh cash.
