Question regarding claim flag.
If you consume your flag; does that mean when the "land rush" happens those who didn't use their claim-flag have slight advantage since they will not need to create a new flag? (how do you create a claim flag anyway?)
Also, I've been trying to get a claim since last Saturday and no luck. I just end wasting hours switching from server to server with no luck.
I guess I blame my working hours.
Claim flag right now is 1 per character, granted upon character creation.
When you claim something, it uses up the flag. If you delete your claim, it returns the flag. Some people have extra claims due to claim flag bugs. SOE does not approve and actively tries to keep people down to 1 claim per character for the current alpha.
As for claim space, they are opening 2 more servers (on top of the new one just recently), and adding more islands. This is spreading people out so you should have more room this weekend. Unless you're a hardcore builder, just stick to mooching off other peoples crafting tables and start stockpiling resources, upgrading your gear, and tools.
As for actually claiming, the UI is pretty bads. Basically, claims are giant square donut plates. The middle is where you can immediately build, the outer is just buffer space for your future expansions. Since they're basically plates, its possible to stack and overlap claims, but not intersect them. It's difficult to see with the current UI but if you know this you can pan your map around to find space between claims.
Also don't necessarily believe the map if it shows an area isn't claimable. If you think it might be, even just barely, just click anyway and it might let you through.
