Yes, but I don't think anyone has a good spreadsheet showing the potential ranges on each pick to let you know if you got a shitty RNG. You can go off the color, green being worse than blue and so forth, but won't know if your blue is only marginally better than a green. But I spent way too much time trying to make a good low tier pick and should have just farmed up to the Viridium or Cobalt whatever that I'm using now. Because you can get enough mats to try your Viridium again while looking for damn Sapphires!

Sapphires are absolutely wrecking me right now. Spent all morning farming every Cobalt vein in T3 desert and have 59 Sapphire. One gave me 56 and the other gave me 3, lol. It is also a PITA because, at least for me, the skin for Sapphire isn't in. So once you reach the end of the Cobalt vein and don't see any Red, you can whack and clear all around trying to see if there is actually Sapphire or not. Aggrifrustrating.
Sapphire looks like Amethyst/Topaz/Emerald/Ruby but dark blue, it's nigh impossible to see without direct sunlight or a Lightstone.

Typical entrance.

Size of the correct vein.

The trick to finding Sapphire is there's only one vein type that has Sapphire at the end. You look for a very small blue vein entrance (with no Rubicite close), whack it to see if it expands or stays roughly the same size and shape. If it gets bigger, you can pretty much forget it and move on. Assuming the size stays the same, follow the vein for about 4 whacks, if the vein doesn't turn and has very little in the way of up/down movement you've probably got the right vein type. If you get a split (cobalt branches in two direction) then stop and look for something else. If at any time you get a 90 degree turn, you'll hit Rubicite soon after and you can just walk away.

If the vein doesn't deviate too much, heads pretty much straight down, and is small in diameter, I can bet you've got Sapphire at the end.

The best method I have for quickly identifying and checking these nodes is to use your overhead map to quickly find small patches of Cobalt, zoom in as far as you can to make sure there's no Rubi in the area, then go check it out. The closer you are to it, the more accurate the overhead map is. It's pretty easy to pinpoint the smallest of the vein entrances when you get a feel for it.

In that advanced tool build, they were doing stuff like clicking the mouse the fill a selection, or smooth what was already selected. Is that stuff not in yet?
You can create a selection and then switch tools and click on it without losing the selection. The tool you have equipped will apply to the selection, then you can switch back to Select tool and move the selection or modify it if you want.

If you spend any amount of time upgrading your picks you will not want for wood for a while. I think I have 50k at the moment and I'm only up to Silversteel.

And for the guy that asked about picks, if you have a really good bronze but a shitty iron, use the bronze to mine what it can and then switch to Iron for doing the Silver level stuff when needed, which is what I did. You'll induce less hair pulling this way. When I upgraded to silversteel it came out blue so yay for that.
That is my process as well; my Iron and Tungsten Picks were green but all you are doing is moving up the chain. I just added them to my hotbar and would switch as the resource required, as moontayle indicated.

Next upgrade, no tears were lost throwing them in the forge.

With the salvage function turned off (at least I didn't check today to see if it was back) is there anything to do other than straight up destroy duplicates? Got a bunch of green Keen Eye rings and while not rare mats or anything didn't want to trash them if not.

Some pick types require the previous tier to create from, so I bank all my picks/axes. I've banked all the extra rings and whatnot till they turn salvage back on, and I'll rip those up, doesn't look like they upgrade at all.

How does Discovery work and is it worth it? Swapping out accessories is such a pain in the ass, I would rather just keep my harvesting bracers equipped all the time, other than when I craft.

Can you explain the reasoning behind this, why switch between picks instead of just using the one that can mine all the materials?
Because you can have lower tier pick with faster speed and bigger damage. This will make mining much faster, if you're doing things equal or lesser than that pick. If your highest tier pick is also your fastest/highest damage, then there isn't a point.

My understanding of Discovery is it increases the chance you get rare/blue resources when digging which would be why Butler suggested people start wearing +discovery rings when doing the burled log hunt.

Yep, that's all it does. Very useful (REQUIRED) for farming Burled Wood. Not so useful for just general mining, unless you are in dire need of the Elemental subtype for the vein you are whacking away at.

I use the double gathering when I'm looking for precious stones like Sapphire and Ruby, and the Discovery stuff for general ore farming to grab more elementals.

Yup this is pretty much what I am doing. My tungesten one is not horrible but my silvered steel one is really good so I just use the latter on everything I can and switch to tungsten as necessary.

EU servers coming up imminently. Hope this helps with lag for us EU players. Makes moving and seeing veins a huge pita.

If you stay in the server select screen do they become available or do you need to log back in ? (they are in the server list but inactive atm)

edit : Two EU server btw - Satisfaction and Understanding

Movement enhancing upgrades I think like flight/superjump stuff like that eventually.
Ah. I have the +1 run and +2 jump accessories right now but they can only go in the same spot as rings/bracers :/ So dumb.

I have always had to log back in.

Find a high level sifter and load up on rocks...gives sapphire.

Got close to 500 in 48 hours now just off crap rocks while looking for other stuff.
