For you gents struggling with Sapphire and Ruby, try the Highland zone. I had a feeling certain materials spawned more often in different zones, and while I am just speculating I found a ton of both in Highland. This is after spending 8 hours yesterday farming rubies and only coming up with 21 before deciding to try another zone.

Got stuck in this dungeon yesterday, had to log into another sever and then back over to mine to get out.
Picture is funky because I took it while the game was loading. As someone mentioned before, you can move your mouse to the corners and resize the load screen and watch the world pop in, can even move your character/camera around.

Closed beta in (probably late) march. The biggest expected differences between alpha and closed beta should be:
- Liquids, notably lakes and seas (no more square islands ending in emptiness), but also ice and snow, tar, lava
- Harvesting plants using sickles on proper plants (instead of random stuff falling out of trees)
- Tiered undergrounds (caverns! Bring your Lightstones!) which is where you'll find tier 4 and 5 resources
- Additional biomes: swamp, jungle, tundra/snow mountains
- The ability to craft additional settler flags for multi-claims (which means bigger islands as well)
- Permissions / Guild permissions
(undergounds and biomes might go in during alpha, but I'll believe it when I see it)
Open beta... whenever.
I don't think we'll see combat at the start of closed beta. If anything, it's too short during alpha; there's plenty of building systems to finish implementing and testing before they can pour combat in it.
