Yeah, right now with just the one claim you've got a ton of amazing shit people have built. Now imagine multiple claims. Both around and under what you already see. It's not out of the realm of possibility for someone to take those 4-5 claims for a casual and turn it into a massive dungeon exploration claim that starts on top and just goes down, down, down. We're literally at the tip of the iceberg here. There's so much coming that's not available to us that it's hard to make an exact determination on what the end result is going to be. But it's hard not to look ahead and get excited.

I really want to see their plans for monetization. That'll be another big deciding factor in how good Landmark is.

I think Sony really has something with landmark, and I think population and $$ wise it may in the end be more than EQ:N - I think they are seeing that... I bet the timeline for EQN has almost ground to a halt- or they are considering options to merge the two.

EQ took MUDS and .5 gen MMOs (the realm/ultima) and took it into 3d and a huge audiance and approached it in a new and ground breaking - foundation creating way.

I think Landmark is the same- but as with anything, time will tell.

It would be awesome to see a system put in place that would allow guilds to get an entire island as a claim. Rerolled Island, home of the misanthropes and trolls.
The island would have to be split up though. The major portion for the normal folk, then a little leper colony that could make a gigantic statue of Brad.

I think they are really busy with EQN and it will be separate. EQL is the foundation of the future. EQN will be the example of what can be done, and their love-child. EQN will be the shot right at Blizzard telling them, 'round 2 is ours'. I really can't wait to see the endgame for EQL. Maybe that's the only way an old school EQ type game gets made...through the tools and options in EQL.

I cant wait to see what peoples imagination and teamwork can do when they have scriptable events and NPCs.

Imagine a guild of 20 or so people constantly working on a single dungeon for over a year. No rush, no pressure, no need to appease little Timmy. I mean every hardcore gamer wants to play Tomb of Horrors in 3d. If Landmark does what they say, we all will.

As for Monetization... why not allow guilds or groups to charge, say, $2.00, for a week pass to their "module" once it passes certain criteria and standards set forth by SoE. Sony gets a buck and the owner gets a buck. Items would obviously be No-rent, but depending on how SoE rates the module, a certain token could be awarded for completing it. I know there are logistical problems with how they would be instanced, and what expense that would occur, but it would be pretty cool.

I too wonder about the monetization aspect. I suppose they could sell special chairs and other accessories to Sims fans, but for truly successful monetization they have to sell a product in demand by the core gamer. I would not be opposed to a guild startup fee, it makes guilds more concrete as real money is invested and it could come with "guild claim flags" that allow communal building. Perhaps they could also sell "GM Claim Flags" that allow you to have a claim with scripted events, monsters, the whole nine.

Supposedly, they're putting a lot of their eggs in the monetizing-the-Player-Studio basket. Aside from that, I'd expect the the ability to pay upkeep with cash rather than resources, and shit like that.

Probably.

What the fuck do I know? In know jack and shit about video games except from playing. I just made up some random shit I pulled out of my ass.

Isn't that what the internet is for?

For someone that's never played minecraft, how easy is it to get started in Landmark?
Run around hitting the ground and trees until you have enough shit to make a pick and an axe so that you can run around hitting the ground and trees a bit faster until you have enough shit for the next pick so you can run around hitting the ground and the trees a bit faster.

I really want to like these types of games but I hate having to collect shit for hours before I can even start building, I just want to pick a spot and build. The rest seems like a job to me and I already have one of those.

so, you see my weird s shaped house thing... it's made from 95% dirt. i went to the top of a mountain, aimed down and put a weight on my mouse then went to watch tv and do stuff around the house. I came back, and i had dirt to build with.

Even then it's not hard to get resources for building. You should end up with a lot of stone and dirt just off getting your picks in order. The grindy part comes from getting resources necessary for the crafting stations and then any accessories for your toon or props for your plot but I'm loath to call it a grind on the whole because it's easily done with what I consider casual MMO play (1 hr/day) in a week.

What? There's no claim reset I'm aware of until Closed Beta begins and then a second one at the start of open beta.
