Though the final game will have five tiers - like copper or tin working, for instance - only the first four will be present in the alpha, spread across different islands each roughly a virtual 8km square.
Landmark can be boiled down to finding a spare space, staking a claim to it, and then gathering the raw materials - and the skills to work with them - to build houses, castles, or whatever else you want on your plot of land. The progression through learning different tools will get more complex, and though you can be gifted more advanced tools or other items by in-game friends who have already earned them, you won't actually be able to use them until you've gone through the process of gaining the relevant skills.
That in itself could take a while, if you want to be the very best. "It would take you more than nine hours to go through the process of making the best pick" creative director Jeff Butler explained, "assuming you have all the materials." Figure on thousands of hours of work to contract a small house, he estimated.
Initially you'll learn your skills at one of the core crafting stations around the island hubs, but players will also be able to construct more advanced tools and stations to take to their own claimed areas. There, surrounded by a buffer zone for future expansion, they're safe from having their constructions destroyed or tampered with; they also get underground and airspace rights, though neither is taken advantage of in the alpha.

How strict are the physics in a building game like this. As in can we put our trailers up on monstrously high stilts to anger the locals for miles around ?
Hmm, not sure. We can test it tonight. Maybe I'll throw some tires in my yard and have a bunch of busted up bikes scattered everywhere.

Stupid question I imagine but I've exhausted my efforts in finding the answer elsewhere. I've purchased a Trailblazer tier and can't seem to find a link to the alpha forums. I've checked the 3 emails they've sent me and it's not there. What am I missing?

I can only imagine perhaps for the best material house since he mentioned best pick just before.
Your going to have to 'level up' your skills, gather stuff, level up some more, gather more stuff, etc.
All the vid's we've seen to date is when they have 'god-mode' on and unlimited resources.

Just something to add to the "point" that may be different for some in regards to Minecraft. Some may have played Minecraft with various add-ons and different server rules to have done this but in EQN:L, you are a part of a community just like you would on any other MMO server... (please correct me if I'm wrong) and there will eventually be social and economic aspects added to the game. I think you will be able to group and raid for materials as well.
Again, there are levels to this in Minecraft if you have someone adding all of this on the back end but EQN:L is making this standard and it should be pretty awesome.
