Even though it is a single carrier kill - this can be a story for some of you folks who are thinking about EVE and what some of the fun and consequences can be.
Basically, that carrier guy died due to stupidity.
He's some carebear flying an expensive-fitted capital ship (that takes quite some time to train and fly properly) and our scout notices he's wrecklessly farming NPC's in an anomaly (mmo equivalent of running a quest). In EVE, - especially in non-wormhole space, you have this thing called "local" where all players can identify other players who are in the same "zone" that you are in - Therefore when our scout popped into this pilot's area, that carrier pilot should have started taking some precautions, like getting his ship to safety.
He doesn't do that, and our alliance forms up with a fleet of 15ish something players.
Now, it's about 2 am EST and the NA contingent of our alliance is tired, and members of my own corporation (a guild within this alliance) are weary that this might be some trap - and this carrier pilot is Russian and playing in their primetime. We still muster pilots however - the excitement of ruining an idiot's day is always exciting for a PVP oriented alliance like ourselves. We make the trip (it's about 5-6 zones/wh jumps which is quite a trek), our scout pins down the target and we arrive on scene.
After 1-2 tense minutes, his carrier is gone, and we haven't been counter-jumped by his friends. We loot the field, gtfo and head home, happy that we've relieved that idiot of such an expensive ship.
This is what EVE is all about. Stupidity is rewarded with the above, while the victors come away satisfied - knowing that a combination of teamwork, timing and dedication netted us a nice juicy target.
