I don't think it was even your own computer that was slowing things down. The entire area would go to shit if a raid was beating on something. You could turn around or look at the ground or whatever and still get dogshit ability lag. It was so bad fighting the Mutagenic Outcast that to this day I still don't really know what was going on during that fight beyond "assist, smash buttons, wait for result"

EverQuest II: Tears of Veeshan Expansion and More Announced

First up, this fall's expansion is Tears of Veeshan. It's a high level expansion with a huge overland zone and 9 massive dungeons. Each of the dungeons in the expansion will have quests and storylines.

Dragons AA Tab - The Dragon's tab has 4 lines to choose from which vary by Archetype. Depending on your archetype, the AA tab will have a different label - Dozekar, Yelenak, Woushi, and Trakanon. (This is just flavor text). With the expansion, the Alternate Advancement cap is going up to 340 points.

What can I say about tomorrow's Itemization Evolves panel? (without being hunted down by Georgeson?) Not much, but just imagine me with duct tape over my mouth, two thumbs way up, and smiling. In Kander's EQ2Talk interview a few months back, he told us that linear, static, and boring itemization is going out and player choice is coming in. I am very excited about this panel and hope you don't miss our Liveblog of it!

Mercenary Slots - You will now be able to store a Merc and swap them out without having to go back to your home city or (in the case of rare/elite mercs, re-find them in the world). This got huge applauses. By the way, EverQuest is getting Merc powerups of some kind. Wonder if we'll see that in EQ2.

Tier 4 Guild Halls - Kinda surprised at this one. They'd have to have an item limit of 2,500 just to decorate all the rooms, and nobody would be able to zone in. But maybe they'll find a creative way to manage the memory on this one! I still want to see a cozy 5-8 room guild hall in New Halas.

Dungeon Finder 2.0 - Don't miss the Systems/Mechanics panel!

and last but not least, a NEW CLASS for EverQuest II.

Channeler class
.Archetype: Priest
.Class: Shaper
.Subclass: Channeler
.Priest with a Construct pet
.Channeler pet is completely customizable.
.Channeler primary weapon is a bow.
.Leather wearing

Tears of Veeshan
.When dragons die, they go to the Eternal Broodlands. that will be where we go for the overland zone in the expansion.

.Yelinak will send us to different places in time and space to find all the Tears of Veeshan. Darathar's area is gold. Yelinak's is purple like Ethernere. Lord Vyyem, etc.
.Dungeons ?2 brand new Shissar themes. Chamber of Stasis. -
Abandoned by the Shissar and the Nayads have moved in.

?Highkeep - both a City and Dungeon. Huge, beautiful. Overrun with Goblins.
?new Stonehive theme - new Bixie model
?Nexus Core -
an incredibly energetic zone. Energy flowing everywhere.

?Temple of Veeshan - Largest dungeon we have made in recent memory. 20 Bosses. First dungeon that will allow flying because the zone is so massive.

After the Expansion
.Frostfell - Totally new zone for Frostfell this time. Looks really fantastic.
.
January - new raids and fabled dungeons (Kingdom of Sky this time), also an interactive PvP zone

.Expansion #11 for 2014 - Yes, we already have it planned out.
We already have our theme planned out for our next expansion for 2014. Some NPC animations were shown.

New 2nd Merc slot and Brand New Class for EQ2 this actually sounds decent.

Now as Half ass as a lot of eq 2 expansions have been.

I know all of us are waiting on EqNext the most.

I don't know.... this seems like the best expansion they've released. Only way I would come back though is if this allowed me to completely bypass the other 2-3 and just let me enjoy this one.

From all they are promising to have this could be the best expansion yet.

If Veilous had all the parts of it been finished at the same time, then that would be the best expansion hands down even with the sillus abortion imtemazation.

Cheers.

Thanks man.. keep me posted. I'm really curious. I'm probably one of the few die hard EQII people on this board but even I had to walk away from these last couple of expansions. I like where this one is going though. Do we have a guild/server here or maybe recommended?

The new EQ and EQ2 expansions sound like the best ones in years. Is Brad returning doing some good as far as ideas on what players actually want?

I find it hilarious that I have an i2500k clocked to 4.5 Ghz, a GTX 570, and 8 Gb Ram and when I put a game designed 10 years ago on extreme settings (when rec specs are for Pentium4's) I get 9 FPS.

Your pc should run it easy UT, nods for game designed 10 years ago but closer to 12 years ago from the start of design, totally agree.

Eq2 engine as well as the Vg engine are 2 the worst MMO engines ever designed.

Vanguard engine is great apart from the hitching. I get almost constant 60fps and I can 6 box in it without even having to lower the settings by much.

So the last time I played was year or so after launch and I haven't touched EQ2 for years , far before it went F2P.

If I wanted to start all over and muck around is there any kind of a sub and zero restriction option , or is it station cash , piece by piece route only ?

Or is Vanguard worth a go on this same thing of just wanting to start over again in a fantasy mmo that is not a NWN style game.

Don't mind paying a sub , just want something to run around in and see if can get interested again.

I get well over 60 to 100 fps on ultra, ultra in both but I have and overkill pc as well as gaming laptop.

My gaming desktop is I7 extreme 5.5 ghz, 64 gig of ram, dual SSD drives, and 3 670 Evga FTW 2 gig cards like I said its overkill I had a 4th 670 Card but I took it out when just built my GF new rig she has 2 cards in her.
When had the 4th 670 in it, it was retarded to much overkill.

But even with my pc sometimes eq2 bogs down during the alphas thru betas thru launch eq 2 had known mem loss issues basically the engine does suck then they spent years working on the new shader only to scrap that.

Qwerty Vanguard the game engine was nerfed years ago what I mean is a lot of your options like use provided shaders work, say you have high end pc don't want to use provided well don't matter if you toggle them off or on.
A lot of the graphics tweaks they changed client side sadly there is no way to renable them as player for all the eye candy glory.

cheers.

Yeah I know, I played Vanguard since beta, and I have a leet PC too. I never had trouble with frame rates, even in the early versions which looked better than it does today. The only issue I have with the engine is that it hitches. That mostly went once I got a SSD, but still, it's a fault of the engine to require that kind of thing.

But still, if they could iron out the hitching issue, I think it's a decent engine. Game looks gorgeous, huuuuge long distance views, and it runs well for me.

I don't like EQ2, I can describe Vanguard though. It is a long, really boring, quest grind. Just like WoW. If you don't mind that then you might like it. If you do mind it, just don't even bother.

Besides that, there are some good dungeons, and some raid content. The classes are pretty cool, but the combat is just so easy it makes you not even care much about your class anyway.

You can level through the whole game without spending a single real dollar. But in the last 20 something levels, it will start to get hard because most of the good loot is 'yellow' which requires you either subscribe or buy unlock potions to equip it. And then if you want to do the high level / raid stuff, you will really NEED that kind of gear to do anything. But you can just play for free for 30 or so levels and by then you will know whether it's worth paying to continue or not.

I play it occasionally but I just get so bored levelling up through all the chore quests. And the high levels are pure grind so there is nothing to motivate me either. So I basically never play it any more. I gave it a good shot though.

Fired up the F2P game and made a new char, got it up to level 10 and opened up AAs. I can't move the slider to 0% so I'm taking an XP hit that goes to AA -- thing I've noticed is I'm not getting any AA for regular kills. Is this normal? Am I stuck with reduced XP because I can't move the slider? The bar does eventually move though, normally after I've killed something I've never killed before. What the shit is going on?

I was in a similar situation as yourself recently and thought it'd be a nice diversion to play this for a bit. Bought the latest expansions and paid for a gold subscription. All I can say is don't waste your time or money on this friend. It's beyond horrible in its current state.

They have a post on everquest wire that they soon will sell level 85 instant characters.

http://eq2wire.com/2013/08/02/heroic...uired-sept-15/

Heroic Characters: Insta-Level 85 for Free, for Any Player (No Previous Experience Required) - Sept 15

Tonight's EverQuest II keynote here at SOE Live included the revelation that Heroic Characters are coming to EQ2. I'm not against this idea, as the writing has been on the wall for insta-level 90 or 85 to come to EQ2 sooner or later. Due to multiple gear revamps plus Mercs, I feel that EverQuest II is a solo tutorial from level 1-89, and then the 'real' game starts at level 90.

However the unsettling part of this announcement was that people would be able to create their FIRST character as a level 85 with full Legendary gear, spells, a chunk of AAs, and have those AAs automatically spent for them with Character Advancement Templates.

Dellmon and Aliscious have talked about insta-level characters on their EQ2Talk podcast, and there have always been some parameters placed on the idea: First, only your SECOND character could be insta-85. You'd have to naturally level at least one character first, to learn the game, join the community, etc. Second, it would be a pay item to keep it an optional convenience thing, rather than expected/typical behavior.

By making it so anyone can create an insta-85 as their FIRST character, I have serious trepidation that we'll see people who are new to EverQuest II (or returning after years away) go for that option, try it, get sucked into a Skyshrine or other group without the foggiest idea what's going on, and be completely unable to play their character, get bounced from the group, and leave hard feelings all around.

I started playing EQ2 in late 2007, so please believe that this is not Nostalgia talking. I think this is a sensible idea that reflects the reality of the game, but which has been turned into some kind of Winback program without all the ramifications being completely thought through. Hopefully there is still time for us to feedback this and get some changes made. I've been talking to some EQ2 devs and I am really pumped about tomorrow's EQ2 panels (esp Itemization - DON'T MISS our Liveblog!). This one just threw me for a loop.

No this is not a joke.

I just wonder if they sell instant 85 crafters too?

Instant 8 bars of ability icons, yeehaw!

I probably couldn't even load up eq2 now and figure out how to play my own characters.

You have to go gold for the slider to move. Also fuck paying 80 dollars to be up to date with the next 2 expansions
