Fallout 4

Fallout 4 left me unsatisfied, mostly because story was bland and most quests were boring, even Cabot House / Silver Shroud stories looked heavily aseptised. Fallout lost its cynical / dark humour vibe. In Fallout 1 and 2 you could enslave people, film porn, fuck people lives so much. In New Vegas you could have a lot of fun fucking up other factions, it felt like the world didn't give a single fuck about you, your character and its story. In Fallout 4 you're basically Dovahkin, everyone's waiting for you to come around, saving the day and killing bad guys. Oh yeah and also, hardcoded keybinds.

Plat'ed and traded in for $15 less than i paid. Did 3 endings, all of them dumb.

Will buy the GOTY edition and do it all over next year.

I think playing The Witcher 3 earlier this year played a role in my low enjoyment level of FO4 too. CDPR has set the bar so so high.
I prefer sci fi to fantasy and even then I find comparing the two pretty hard. I prefer the open world of FO to W3 but agree that of course the stories are better in W3 ( although SS and some of the small random events like the alien are fantastic). I had about the same amount of time played with about 130 hours each and I really can't pick a favorite. I loved them both and find comparing the two hard to do. Their Cyberpunk game would be a better comparison.

Now, now. This isn't a thread to bash FO4 or compare to W3 in. Remember, if you remotely enjoyed the game your opinion is invalid and if you didn't nobody cares.

Hahaha.
---

In all honesty though I do agree the companions were the main improvements over FO3 for me in improving the story(still want my death squad back [mod]), but some of those personality quirk comments just grated on my nerves. Couldn't bring Nick with me for example - never any relevant lore or environment or any comments at all besides bashing on me for failing at sneaking.

Unrelated question though: Is anyone pimping out their PipBoys?

Ya, that mostly drove who I liked as a companion. Nick's story quest was well done, but he never added much just roaming around personality/commentary wise. Piper seemed to be the best companion I found for commenting on the environment and specific scenarios, in terms of variety and interesting things to say. I went to Fallons in the game and she mentioned how she used to think Shopping Carts were baby cages and her sister wasn't happy with that misunderstanding lol.

Nearing the end. Love a lot about this game. But damn does this story not make a whole lot of sense. It seems like the story was written in silos.

The Brotherhood does their thing, the Institute does their thing, the Railroad does their thing and the Minutemen does their thing. But it doesn't seem like they're all vying for the Commonwealth. Just cursory thing that happen to be there.

In contrast to New Vegas. Where Vegas itself was the centerpiece. All factions and game elements were vying for control/influence over Vegas for very clear reasons. Even if their underlying intentions differed. Seems that Bethesda wanted to capture some of that but it just didn't work at all. Mixed in too much Dovahkin/Chosen One shit they've been doing for years into this as well, as was mentioned earlier.

All that aside there are some real gems of A++ content within. I really hope that they nail the DLCs this time around.

Piper is the best companion for side commentary BY FAR. So much more than the others that I brought her along for just about everything other than the various sidequests.

This is why I stopped playing. Once I got to the institute (as that is how the games guides you along the story path) and met up with father, I was like wait wtf, did i just join the enemy without even batting an eye?

Tuco's embargo hasn't lifted. Spoiler that shit.

[Edit] Embargo is until Dec 10.

Talk about the game, your (un)happiness with it, mods, or W3 all you want but story sensitive posts still need spoilers.

Well

They are the "enemy" only because of assumption and what people have told you. With more info, you learn that The Institute tried to involve the Commonwealth a long time ago and it went to shit because everyone couldn't get along and Kellog was a loose cannon. That being said, they aren't innocent, but they aren't evil either. There are some assholes with thin morality there, but there are also many who just want to make things better.

So, I've got an interesting bug. I completed the Cabot Quest without any hitches, which I understand can be problematic at times. But now when I go into the Cabot House, it is no longer considered stealing to take stuff (including his unique gun just sitting there on his workbench). Maybe that is on purpose, maybe not. But what is definitely a bug is that every time I leave and come back, the place completely respawns. I am having a really hard time not equipping every single settler with a
Fat Man or Zeta Gun
just for the hilarity.

Seriously Slurn? I specifically and intentionally said nothing about the actual story in any way other than mentioning the factions that exist. The fuck you talking about?

I enjoyed Piper's personality, but Cait has been able to pick any lock that wasn't a plot-gate. Since I have no points in lockpicking, I suppose that's that.

I DID max out rep with Nick, Piper and Strong for their perks tho. Is maccready's perk worthwhile?

MacReady's is broken. (by being too good, basically 100% chance of head hits with it because of the math being wrong in the data files)

Why don't you take a second look at the time stamps of your post and the next two then kindly grab some common sense with your current post in mind. While you're at it, look at the tree below me and use the lights to find your answer.

Yah I was tempted to try that but I'm sticking to cosmetic tweaks for my first playthrough. I have a sickness with spending waaaaay too much time on settlements though, and the uncapped settlements and placeable food planter mods were really tempting.

Actually does anyone know of a way to entice settlers to congregate at a given leisure zone after work hours? At some settlements they'll happily go where the couches and the TV's are but at others (like the Castle) they'll just stand around the spawn point near the main antenna and stare at each other until it's time to go to bed even though I've built a huge lounge area for them nearby.

I have a food+drink emporium which they all line up at during the night to get drinks/noodles, but you need 2 levels in local leader to do that and the cap perk.

I also decided to refortify Covenant after I liquidated the original people there

I was able to line the tops of the concrete walls with wooden roofs, which gives me a platform to add lots of turrets. Easiest settlement to defend once you do that. I had to send Curie there because I ran out of room in Sanctuary. I should have let Mama Murphy overdose on Psycho to free up a spot.
