True, but it's nice that mods give people the play style they want. It is unfortunate that the developers take the lazy way out on difficulty though. Nothing stopping you from playing on easy or normal the game should be as it is. Would be nice if they would look at scarcity and reality of damage taken vs just turning everything into bullet sponges. Not to mention npc awareness.

Hey I'm buying and playing Fallout 4 on release too!

Even though vanilla is generally shit with terrible char models and all that; it still has a nice charm. (and have they fixed the char models apparently?!)

Either way vanilla will be a blast and a couple years later ill be able to mod it to jack off to with all the sex mods and other bullshit that it will have. All while having beaten it on "very hard" while pretending that it was actually hard to my forum "friends" who don't know how to use a sniper rifle and stealth.

I am hoping that FO4 is more like NV than FO3. I want some cool factions.

The hardest part about very hard is remembering to save.

I pre-orderd this shit yesterday and noticed the steam link was dropping on the same day, coincidence? I decided to pick it up as well so I can play from the couch and pass on GW2 HoT for the time being.

I am excited!

Would be interesting if they tried a Hitman style approach of changing the options and features a player has based on difficulty. Ex: Make it so that on hard mode you can only save when you're near a teleport location. Dead is dead playthroughs in Skyrim are a lot of fun (especially when you get the random start mod). No random saving would be fun also.
They are designing around the mainstream, if you want something ballbreakingly hard but fun play the dark souls series and spinoffs for that like I do. Beth games are just for fun and jerking off to female modded characters.
The Demon Souls series et all are fun, but a modded Bethesda game made into a ballbreakingly hard but fun game scratches a different itch for me. Bethesda games are much less constrained and the fights are more asymmetrical at times. DS is mostly about getting a decent build, getting good at its moves, memorizing a given NPC's frames and then taking advantage of it. Once the first two parts are down, the cycle of approaching a new NPC/boss, feeling them out and then executing becomes really formulaic. Fallout3/NV has the same type of issue but it's much more random and chaotic.

I've started feeling bad that almost any time I find a merchant caravan somewhere, that a Legion Assassin squad will show up and they'll get killed in the crossfire. Found a lone prospector sleeping under a lean-to in the middle of nowhere last night, and as soon as I turn around to check behind me there those fuckers are again. Poor Prospector_22, I never even knew you.

I picked up Boone and ED-E as followers, and I think I got some perks that extend the distance I can detect enemies at. This was cool for a few minutes, until I started running into areas that had mobs 360 degrees around me and everything within 20 miles shows up as hostile. But you can't see anything because there are hills every 20ft in all directions. At one point I ended up clearing every mob in a corner of the map because I'd climb a hill...no, don't see the mob yet...climb the next hill...ok, was a gecko, but now I'm detecting another 5 mobs...fucking hell, LOL. It's nice if I just want to wander indefinitely but sometimes I just want to see who is within "range X".

Yeah I always felt bad too especially in my "Big Iron desert cowboy" play through.

Boone and Ede are the way to go. Their spotting perks are insane. Also Boone comes off as a douche but do his side story. He actually is a pretty cool dude and talk about loyalty.

With Project Nevada you can get a cyborg implant that gives you nightvision, heat vision and "EM Vision". The EM Vision is the most cheaty of the three and gives you a minor form of wall hacking. However it's somewhat irritating to use so you naturally have to switch around as you're exploring. It creates a really fun gameplay effect where as you're exploring outdoors or in a cave you're constantly switching modes to find the optimal way to perceive your world.

Anyway, this provides a method to determine if those detected enemies are worth fighting.

I told my kids they could take the day off school and just play Fallout 4 all day, and I'd write them a note saying they were suffering from radiation poisoning and that's why they couldn't attend school that day.

We are all meeting at Tuco's for midnight release. Bring booze, baby rattles and diapers. Oh and a Twinkie with a candle for the old man.

I have been thinking about what to do to celebrate, because getting off work and telling my family to leave me alone isn't enough.

For competitive MMO releases I get on a strict diet of easily digestable food so I can not sleep for several days at a time and my digestion system shuts down, but I won't be forgoing sleep for FO4 so I can eat whatever I want.
