Ok, I'll put FO2 in my queue. But it's behind Witcher3, GTAV, DAII and some other ones =( I probably won't get to it until long after FO4 comes out.
I support that order until you hit DA2. Push that one off until later and make room for Fallout 2.

Fuck me. My queue is like 50 games long. Right now I'm just trying to blast through some quick ones like Portal 2 (that was a great way to spend a Saturday!) to feel like I'm making progress. I haven't even played FO3 or NV. But fine, I'll put FO2 on there. I wonder if I can even install the CD version I have laying around.

Get the Steam or GOG versions, they've been updated to run in higher resolutions and shit on modern systems.

They're like 5 bucks or some shit. Pocket change.

GoG version is infinitely superior to steam, since I don't like my old games launched through steam when I can have a DRM free installer and put them on anything. Get the fallout restoration patch, IIRC it comes with everything else baked in - community patch, wide screen mod, restored content.

After I saw how much I could get for selling my collectors edition, it became an easy choice to sell.

In other news the Perk system looks like shit

I just rewatched the 22 minutes of gameplay from E3 or whatever this year for Fallout 4.

Its pretty obvious that the main character is probably an android, imo.

You start in 2077 and set up your character and stuff, then you race to the vault because the bombs are falling, then the bombs hit as you're entering the vault, then you wake up outside the vault 200 years later.

Boston is where MIT is, which is the Commonwealth/Institute, which trained House in the past and which was the source of the Replicated Man questline in Fallout 3.

Not a lot else except cryogenic freezing explains why this person who was alive in 2077 wakes up in 2277 on top of the vault.

That's my theory going into the game at this point. You'll get some big reveal at some point that you're a replicated man who has his memory implanted from like records in Vault 111 or some shit. Seems plausible at least.

Anyway, rewatching that 22 minutes of gameplay has me so jazzed for this game. Less than two months away now, which is good.

Good theorycrafting.

I wonder if you're an android based on alien tech and you need to kill other similar androids to collect their sparks which enable you to do robo-yells. If you collect them all they transform into the AllSpark and you become the RobotLander.

Do consider the timegap has always been a bit anachronistic. All sorts of things in the game, seem as though the bomb dropped like a week before you get to them, as the player 200 years later. Ghouls also live that long, many were alive BEFORE the bomb.

Ghouls long lives are canonically explained with radiation magicks, though.

All long lived characters are explained canonically. House was cryogenically frozen but still aged, ghouls and super mutants are long lived due to radiation.

The pc in 4 isnt ancient like House in cryogenic stasis, isnt mutated, theres not a lot of ways to justify his complete lack of aging and his total lack of memory of the past 200 years.

If you watch the gameplay video the pc seems to think hes been unconscious laying outside the door of the vault since the bombs dropped as well in his interaction with codsworth (his mr handy robot from before the bombs dropped).

So unless bethesda just says "fuck it" to all sense and reason, theres gonna have to be a reasonable explanation for that shit, and the replicated man is clearly the tie between the two games. Thats the entire reason bethesda has set it in boston this time, the enclave are gone, they need a new villain and the institute is already set up as bad guys from that quest in f3. People have been calling f4 being set in boston for years before the game was announced.

200 years worth of vault time sequences when the character creation is already done by the time the bombs drop though?

I mean clearly its not the full intro sequence, but it looked to be a pretty significant chunk of it.

Doubt theyre going to force us through an extra hour of vault shit after you make your character and run to the vault as the bombs drop. The time gap and memory loss indicates trying to figure out what happened is part of the storyline.

Yea, but keep in mind they stated flat out "they were skipping anything spoilery" in the demo - so you could've gotten locked in a sleep chamber thing or whatever else in the meantime. I do like your theory though, and feel like it could have some legs - the 200 years doesn't sit right with me, but I won't be bowled over if there's some other explanation.

But I certainly was thinking some weird explanation had to be likely. (I'd not bothered to think into the Replicated man connection - I knew of that + Boston and 200 years didn't sit right with me but didn't really spend time thinking into it personally)

This is going to open up a whole load of new possibilities for the makers of the inevitable sex/rape mods!

Interesting. I noticed the sequence and time discrepancy in what they released but chalked it off to Cryo sleep. Each of the vaults had their own directives and perhaps this particular vault was testing cyro sleep or some other type of suspended animation. Another possibility is they are forced into this state due to circumstances after the vault closes.

Replicated man theory adds some interesting possibilities. Although I'm not sure how well that will be received to be playing an android. Certainly could play into MIT and I'm pretty sure we'll see something like that in game. Brainiacs at MIT transfer their consciousness into androids and having an entire sub group of androids in the wasteland doing their thing and needing help.

Making the main character as an android is interesting but I think might be risky story wise. I'm curious how its all going to play out.

When they announced it was going to be Boston, my 1st thought was he would be an android (or cyborg). The bits we have received thus far seem to lend a lot of credence. You do see some quick snippets of him finding a Pipboy and the remains of long dead scientists, which makes me think he awakens inside the vault and has to get outside. You will probably come to find out that Vault's purpose was to see if they could transfer human consciousness into an artificial body and the main protagonist will end up being the only successful subject.

Many people on fallout Reddit have been thinking the PC is a android for years. I think the PC will be a android too.

Although we could have mothership Zeta pick us up and...

Hey spronk you should hit Vegas up with me for Halloween. I'm taking a few of the guys/gals out to the Goodsprings Saloon.
