God damnit. Reviewing that map someone linked earlier I apparently missed several magazines. Those shits are really a pain in the ass to find with general looting if you aren't very careful about looking for them. They look like most of the other hundreds of pieces of paper and shit on the ground.

Easy to miss. Oh well, a few fast track trips to fix that. Does anyone know if mobs respawn at cleared locations?

which map? They do respawn and more frequently than in FO3 or skyrim IIRC.

Fallout4map.com interactive map. Shows locations of most of the things you can pickup. I've started using it to ensure I don't miss important things while clearing dungeons. Magazines and holotapes mainly.

So, a cleared building I have on my map will be full of raiders again after some time?

If I was starting over I'd go with something like:
YcTcOAp.png

You're SPECIAL! magazine point goes into CH. Bobbleheads are required for all but EN. Not sure what to say there, I consider them crucial to any optimized build and I'm not sure how you'd work around that. You never want a single extra point in SPECIAL that could have gone to a perk instead. I only used the most vague spoilers possible, "X is located in this building" or whatever. Figuring out where they are and how to get them relatively early on was the real challenge.

Also, I delay the crafting perks if I don't need them for anything when I hit a particular level, and take the next regular perk that's available. Rifleman, Locks, Hacker, Sneak, Ninja, and Local Leader are the only perks that I'd consider carved in stone as far as the level listed goes.
Yeah, I'm thinking I will need to "spoil" at least general locations for some of the bobbleheads, but that's ok I guess. Between what you and Hodj have given me, I think I have a pretty good idea of what is important and should be focused on early game. I made it back to finishing all the initial Sanctuary building quests last night, so I'm still not very far at all, but I feel like I have more of a purpose now and I'm not just randomly doing shit and wondering if it is the right thing. Even if I spend a point or two I find later I shouldn't have, I think overall I'm going to be fine and not too worried about it.

Thank you both for the help, I really appreciate it. I switched to Survival mode for this playthrough too, but only because I want better chances for cool items, so we'll see how that goes. I got fucking owned by the first damn bloatfly I saw! And totally had to cheese that Deathclaw (and run through most of every ammo type I had). But I'm still optimistic about going forward. Thanks again!

I kind of want to restart, i didn't realize there was a difficulty setting.. i'm yet to see some sort of legendary playing on normal?

^ I also have the mysterious stranger but i haven't seen it proc yet, i always forget to use my VATS.

Yep. There's nothing quite like standing at your weapons bench fucking around with mods when you hear a turret start to go off and Super Mutants yelling about murdering you.
Sanctuary has rows of sentry guns ready to fight, the rest of the settlements I was strong-armed by Preston into 'settling' are megafucked though. If they want to be comfortable they can come to Sanctuary.

I was using dog at first, but he's so weak. Codsworth is a beast, his melee attack is crazy. Since I am trying a melee build and it's kinda weak until you get weapons/perks/armor, Codsworth is a big boon.

I really want a mod that gives companions infinite ammo of whatever caliber/type their default gun is, but allows it to be used with customized guns you give them. It sucks that Piper has unlimited 10mm with her shitty pistol, but if I want her to use a sweet automatic one loaded with mods then she'll go through 1000 rounds in less than an hour of playing.
I suppose the easiest "mod" would be the classic player.additem for their ammo type in the area of 10,000 and be done with it.

Obviously if you give someone a Minigun or flamer it's not gonna be the same as a sweet ass pistol or a rifle, but whatever.

I got to level 20 before I finally put down a couple turrets at Red Rocket, then started dicking around with the minutemen shit and unlocked a few more settlements, said fuck that shit and dropped it for now.

When my garage gets to the point where I can't park PA suits in it because it's packed full of them, then I'll start building. (It's...getting fairly close)

I get plenty of legendaries in normal. The problem for me is they keep dropping bullshit batons and combat knives.

Ahh okay good to know, are they just random spawns out in the world? i guess i haven't explored enough yet since i still haven't even started going to the diamond city

Watching kungen 'shadow step' with blitz is kind of comical. Melee build seems pretty good

You can adjust the difficulty up and down anytime you want in the settings gameplay menu. No need to restart for that.

Got a legendary double barreled shotgun that fires an extra shot each time you pull the trigger, and a legendary Right leg leather piece that reduces all damage by 15% as long as you are not moving. Not even save scumming and the game is being very kind.

I am definitely running into more of them now that I'm working on the story a bit more, but they're fairly random.

If you change a setting like difficulty and you find it setting itself back to the previous setting, youve probably set your fallout 4 preferences file to read only after changing field of view and whatnot.

If thats the case then just go into the file after setting it back to not read only change the difficulty setting in the file directly by setting the value (range 1 to 6, 6 being survival) and then save the file and set it to read only again

Yeah, I was looking into whether it's possible to give them unlimited ammo for all weapons and then just not cheat. My definition of "cheat" anyway, which would be only giving them a gun of the same caliber/cell type as their default weapon. Since ammo is weightless, giving them a ridiculously large supply with the console is the next best option as you said. I just will pretend it's not there as far as my character is concerned.

Speaking of the console, there's two things I change every time I start the game:
setgs fXPDeathRewardHealthThreshold 0.0
setgs iTerminalDisplayRate 1000

The first makes it so you get xp from things your companion kills even if you don't shoot them yourself (a requirement I think is really stupid) and the second fixes the ungodly slow text display on terminals.

Someone on reddit posted a great way to make caps and take advantage of the Local Leader stores: fill every possible inch of water in every settlement with water purifiers. You'll end up with hundreds of bottles of purified water which can be sold for up to like 20 caps each. Not sure I'm going to bother going to that extreme, but it seems worth throwing down 7-8 in Sanctuary, maybe a couple at the drive in etc. The best part is that when you sell the water to the settlement vendors you get to collect tax from the transaction.
