Lol, ya...never give compansions stealthboys or anything with fatal splash. You regret it fast
wink.png

There are some cool animations, though. Last night I was exploring with Piper and some raiders attacked. I was sniping some up on a ridge above us and one had snuck up behind us and rushed Piper. She did this kung-fu leg sweep that knocked the raider flat on their ass and then capped the raider in the head with her gun while they were down. Was pretty badass ;p

ha yeah. Damn you piper.
I've taken to use the target, "go pick up shit" command, because it lets you bypass the weight limits on them.
you can tell them to loot whole bodies. The problem with this is, as you note, they will swap to weapons with ammo, and use stealthboys. First one I found, she immediately used.
And yep, guess I had her loot a rocket launcher at some point, cause on the same trip like 1 minute prior, she felt wiping out a rocket launcher and shooting a level 1 feral ghoul in a small hallway was a great idea. (I totally quicksaved like 1s prior too. I had to do some quick dodge on load, to get out of the blast.)
Just be careful to strip them of ammo for the stuff you dont want them to use.

Otherwise I have her using a shiskabob atm.

So a heads up about factions
Who you choose to initially infiltrate the Institute with doesn't really matter, but it can potentially disturb quest interactions for completion if you have any queued prior to going in. Railroad locked me out from turning in several quests because D refused to accept anything until I agreed to support the Railroad's method of taking down the Institute and the BoS quest givers refused to interact with me until I let Elder berate me and promised to give him Sturges' holotape.

Also, it may have bugged for me but if you don't answer "Father" about joining, it auto forces you to join and won't autofail you on Virgil's quest until you try and give him his cure. This also disables quest progression only for Minutemen. So if you want to end the game with their raid you have to go back to the institute and massacre the entire compound before you get banished - (is there an easier way to do this?) in order to trigger the "Castle" siege.

So do whatever you want with all the factions, but if you progress to finally going in make sure you have in mind who you want to end with to avoid the headache I did trying to figure out why the minutemen didn't have any quests after giving Sturges the tape.
Ended the game at lvl 56. Gameplay at the end was pretty silly considering what I had to do to even trigger the desired pathway for it.

I have an annoying bug where fast travel has 95% stopped working. If I click on a location on the map nothing happens at all. If I mash all of my mouse buttons angrily for 30 seconds then it appears to start working perfectly and then I can click to fast travel over and over, but once I actually fast travel, it breaks again immediately. I don't think it's a mouse issue as I never have any issues clicking on anything else or attacking.. I remember this issue used to be caused by addons in FO3/NV but I don't have any addos installed so I'm at a bit of a loss.

I had that. I saved, reloaded and it worked fine. Same thing happened with NPC's not doing what they were supposed to (scripted scene like unlocking a terminal).

The mod fixes it, its still oretty strong for a perk but not ridiculously op like it is bugged.

I stole a lot to get the perk but I also did some quest decisions that helped it along.

His perk is the hardest to get for sure. Hes so finicky and sort of neutral about shit too much good hurts too much bad hurts. You have to be an uncaring dick but you cant be an outright monster.
Wait, what? His perk is by far the easiest to get of them all. All you have to do is steal shit, and even though there's a cooldown on the 'like' it's still much faster than anyone else. The worst is Strong, by a huge margin. He dislikes you wearing power armor, picking *any* locks, and any speech checks asking for more caps. The only things he likes are cannibalism and murder. Curie's probably the second hardest. It took me like 20 levels constantly adventuring with Piper and avoiding anything she disliked in order to max her out, and that's a companion who likes lockpicking. No idea how the hell I'm ever going to max out more than one or two others in a single playthrough.

Full info on companion likes/dislikes, if anyone's interested:

Piper took me no time at all to max out rep with. Just do nice things for people.

Strong might be more difficult, I haven't even started working with him yet.

I never wear power armor, so that won't hurt me.

Piper wasn't that hard for me to get to max/romance level. I usually play a good guy in the FO games, so helping good people out with quests got me a chunk and of course picking locks makes it easy. One easy way to power level "good guy" companion rep is to try to convince Mama Murphy to stop doing drugs and then failing the final convince check. You can pester her every now and again to try again and each try results in 2 likes (telling her no more drugs, then trying the convince check to stop drugs). Multiple companions will like that if you have them all chilling out in Sanctuary and they are nearby.

Well all those repeatable side quests , at least for BOS and Railroad adds new items to the vendors there. So besides just xp/caps they get new stuff added....i mean nothing really special just yet. BOS eventually has better BOS combat armor and Railroad has better clothing with defensive stats to wear underneath armor pieces , kinda nice if you dont want to use Power Armor. But havent seen a better piece of clothing then the initial one that Tinker Toms makes you or the BOS armor that has higher defensive stats then what you can craft. Cause you eventually at that point will have enough perk points to dump into armor crafting/gun crafting.

Ending Spoiler
Bunker Hill Mission where you need to rescue/kill the escaped Synths is the point where you cement which faction you want to join. Going Minutemen lets you still do those repeatable missions from RailRoad/BOS. But making either the Railroad or BOS join you in the fight will remove the other as in they want one another dead. So if you want to still do the repeatable missions for all 3 , have the minutemen help you in taking down the institute. All in all , it ended up alright. Still would of liked a few more unique missions with the quest givers from the factions.

Hmm, Instigating Machete- 35 damage when upgraded with a serrated edge, does double damage vs full health targets. Good ninja tool?
lol, that cracked me up when I saw it in game. The only bad cut I ever gave myself was with a damned serrated edge. Took the tip of my thumb off. Saw a guy rip open his arm on an industrial sized Darnell (saran wrap) by not watching his arm as it was laying across the cutter (which isn't sharp) when he tore the plastic off. Shit is no joke.

Anyway, on topic, I like the combat knife.

So is X-01 really the best Power Armor? I just found another set of it doing that Big Dig quest... Unlike most people I honestly dislike accumulating so many power armor suits. I only need the two!

My Vault-Tec Rep is bugged since I didn't tell him to go anywhere as I wanted Sanctuary but had the option greyed out due to population cap. So the asshole now just wanders around Sanctuary and I can't assign him to my trading emporium because hes not really supposed to be there. THAT is an annoying ass bug.

I don't know if I suck or what, but I just keep dying over and over.

I've been really sick plus started a new job, so finally got to playing last night and just turned it off slightly frustrated. I'm level 10, only gone up to Diamond City. Decided before proceeding I should probably level up. Doing the settlement quests, but the one I'm on takes me through Boston and some enemies that are destroying me.

Where should I go as far as sidequest/level up/I need better gear stuff? I was going to investigate the witch museum or something, but I got sidetracked.

The game is harder than the past two games, so you don't suck, you're just not used to the changes.

Definitely don't try exploring the Witch museum yet (just trust me, thar be dragons). I would explore though.

Get a shotgun, use stealth, use companions to distract enemies, roam around killing shit. Don't go too far South or East. Enemies get harder the further from Sanctuary you go.

Try following the main storyline for a bit longer since you've gotten to Diamond City. Make sure to dump some points into a weapon skill. If you get one to rank 3, you should be good to go.

are you playing on survival? to be honest, I die ALOT still as well.

Build, and the scope/vats thing. As well as OP weapons.

I started, 2,5,3,6,8,6,2 in special iirc. high cha, and int.. Neither of these help in combat at all. My stealthing sucks. While I run around in leather armor. and my end is super low as well. Pretty much everything can 1 or 2 shot me. Luck is very powerful in this game, with crit on demand.

im at level 22 now, and have had a major jump in power and survival, as I start adding base prec. have 10 now with gear, and base.
that 5 prec, and 6 agil, was not really enough for a sniper/stealther.
And in combination with that was, the Vats and scoping. I just ripped the scopes off all my guns except my pure sniper rifle. So my combat rifle and shotgun are more effective up close, and I can aim faster even out of vats midrange.

OP weapons can make all the difference. I got a wounding combat shotgun recently. 3 shots kills everything. totally broken. Why do assualtrons bleed? The 50% crit damage, and 15% additional crit laser rifle is still crazy good. would be even stronger in a luck build.
Shotgun is so silly, I dont even need strategy. But, if I dont want to "cheat", do need to run from most encounters, and plan. Deathclaw? run. find cover. (buses work well) no cover? after it gives up, place frag mines. Snipe it. draw it into the mines. Or turrets if a base is near.

You may be doing it wrong. I am level 12 and don't seem close to getting to Diamond City. I progressed through one BOS quest from raiders to ghouls and then some really hard super mutants before I stopped because I could only beat them with cheese tactics. I switched to some Minutemen quests that were back on raiders, and plan to do some of the other BOS quests around Concord.

Some of it may be from prioritizing sneak/hack/lockpick perks over combat.

Nothing stops you from running as far east or south as you want at any time, except for dying to skull NPCs. I am also having trouble figuring out which areas/quests I should be doing that are appropriate for my level.

It really is kind of ridiculous how good Combat Shotguns/Rifles are compared to every other weapon in the game besides a plasma rifle (didn't find the ray gun) add on some of the more obvious unique modifiers and it's just outright bad balancing especially when you consider at what point both become ammo sustainable (talking a modded .308 combat rifle).

When I ended the game at 56, my + %dmg shotgun was still one shot regulars(2 for legends), while my double shot rifle 1-3 shot everything. Got the shotty around 18 and the rifle modded to .308 around 35. It's even better when you realize they can both increase in power from Rifleman.
