I accidently shot the Covenant Mayor in the head and had to clear the whole town before I finished the quest, I did have to spend some perks on hacking to finish it. I really liked the town set up with the walls so i set up my radio becon and started to attract settles. Its a little odd that the bodies of the town folks i massacred are still in the middle of town with the new settles stepping over them.

I have shot a lot of things i did not mean too just by setting down my DS4 on the couch lol

Question about VATS...

What % is used for calculating your shot, the % shown at the time you click on the body part, the % shown at the time you actually start firing(once all the selection is done) or the % shown when the actual shots are going off?

I ask because the % can change drastically on moving targets(especially targeting a small area like their head). I've had a feral ghoul lunge at me and fall down and in the span of about 10 seconds in VATS the hit % on it's head goes from 0 - 80% and back to 0% as they contort while standing up. I wasn't sure of the ideal time to get the optimal hit %
The way I think it works:
1. When in VATS in each frame the numbers are populated each frame via some gaussian blur + a ray tracing system. In other words, the accuracy of your weapon emits a cone of different dispersion levels projecting toward the enemie's body part. The chance of success is based on the % of that cone that intersects with the enemy's body part. Ex: your sniper rifle emits this narrow cone right at the enemy. Your sawed off shotty emits this massive ludicrous cone (probably with some kind of multiplier because pellets).

An enemy body part being blocked by something will cause that cone to be blocked also, so the intersection level will be less.

2. When you execute a shot, your bullet trajectory is rotated randomly based on how large the above cone is, adding some error. The bullet follows this trajectory and from there it is simple collision physics.

Case in point: I'm sure I'm not the only one who has engaged VATS at point blank range, pressed the execute button and watched my character faff about for 4 minutes while the mob goes and hides behind a twig that is perfectly between their head and my gun, and all my bullets hit said twig.

I've domed a few of the diamond city guards from time to time when skirmishes are going on near the city and I'm not using vats just picking people off. At least I save often.

I've also had a twig, post, mostly destroyed window and tons of other stupid stuff get in between my vats shot and enemy that slowly moves out of the way while I'm sitting there staring at him in slow motion.

One thing that bothers me is designers of the reload action never fired a gun in their lives. Drives me nuts to always cock back the slide when changing clips despite there being a round in the chamber. Same when pulling the gun out at times. Also drives me nuts to get my reload interrupted by unknown action that interrupts the animation and be sitting there with 0/x ammo then go to fire and decide to reload. I thought I did that already?

On that.., does the chameleon item effect stack or is it even worthwhile on armor? I have 2 pieces that have the chameleon but I was curious if it stacked at all. I haven't found better pieces for the slot so I haven't replaced them yet tho.
Chameleon is too annoying to use imo. It barely seemed to help at all (the problem at lower sneak ranks is sound, not sight, in most situations) and the pip-boy bug is infuriating, and once you have Sneak 4 and a few magazines you're practically invisible anyway. I occasionally give an item with the mod on it to my companion since they get spotted really easily. Not really sure how much it helps though.

Me either. I am stuck at 95% and followed the guide to a T. I guess I gotta get this perk. Let me know what you did here or PM.
I don't think the perk actually helps. I found my synth by trial and error with my shotgun and there was nothing special about its resists, just the synth component on the corpse after it died. I'm pretty sure people who claimed that was how they found them on reddit weren't taking into account certain head slot items that give energy resist, because synths do not naturally have any extra resistances.

You have to be really careful when you kill it too. Companions anywhere nearby will hate it (except Strong, I think you could actually get a "loved that" boost for him if you wanted to bother), and if anyone else sees you then the whole town including all your companions will attack.

Chameleon made it incredibly difficult to aim with some weapon depending on the sight used. Plus the pip boy bug was annoying. I did throw it on a companion from time to time but found I needed to keep cycling equip and unequip to get it to work. It would stop working. Wasn't worth it.

Quick lore question:

Did the children being trained to be combat heroes in Vault 75 become the Gunner's that are there, or did the Gunner's simply take over the Vault?
The way they presented it makes it seem like the Gunners = the child soldier program they had been running. The vault was in good shape and the only corpses were scientists and what looked like a few soldiers

Yeah the chameleon effect is annoying but I haven't found a better piece to replace it yet.

As far as synth infiltrators is it just bugged to shit or am I just screwed without the awareness perk? Sanctuary is under attack but when I went there, there was nothing....then a settler started firing at a provisioner and got btfo by my turrets. He had syth components on his corpse but the mission never finished.

Now when I fast travel or even just walk to the abernathys the mission fails and most my settlers die. Worse all my cornfields for adhesives get wiped out which is irritating to repair.

You are experiencing two different things, I think.

Some Settlers can be Synths, but also, sometimes attacking enemies bug out and fall through the world or spawn underneath structures that you have built/placed. Try using the console command tcl to turn collision off and scooting about under the world/buildings to see if there is one of them under there. If there is, there is a command to kill it (do not remember it off hand).

I am sure that sometimes the two are related, but not always. Twice I have had a settlement bug out like that. The most recent time, I murdered every settler to see if any of them were Synths (and to try out a MIRV Mini Nuke Launcher), but not a one was.
