Is the "SS" you're referring to the Enclave? Sorry, not really up on the Fallout lore, aside from 3 & 4 (and I remember only parts of 3).
yeah, each player character has a nickname.

Fallout: the vault dweller.
Fallout2:the Chosen one
Fallout 3:The Lone Wanderer
FO:NV: The Courier
FO4: the Sole Survivor
FO:tactics: the warrior
FO:BOS: The Initiate

No he wasn't but it's easy to think he was. Our timeline is similar until 1945 and the 1950's just don't end until 2077. China annex Russia we annex Canada etc. It's like a long ass winter in game of thrones lasting decades. The closest thing to WW2 for him would have been the resource wars in 2052-2077.

Great read
Resource Wars - The Fallout wiki - Fallout 4 and more - Wikia
The FO universe is pretty cool because they diverged differently from us where they have extremely cheap, compact and powerful portable power but they absolutely suck in some other forms of technology like computers. But since they have really good portable energy they have the ability to have energy reliant technologies that are mobile and remote. But in our timeline we are still stuck with relatively shitty batteries but compared to Fallout our mobile phones are super computers. It is kind of interesting to think how differently our world would look if we discovered easy/portable nuclear power and if that means we wouldn't have had such a huge arms race of computing power.

Ya, in FO the transistor wasn't invented until the mid 21st century, whereas IRL it was invented in 1947. Without the transistor, there was no cheap and easy miniaturization of electronics and technology was horrible inefficient powerwise as a result (which is why the resource wars happen...they expended fossil fuels far far faster than we did). By the time it was discovered in the FO universe, they were able to apply that to advances that had been made sans-transistor and had a massive catch-up techwise (fusion, advanced AI, etc).

It is somewhat odd that their computer tech is stuck in the early-80s, but they have self-aware robots ;p

Mod makes me consider reinstalling early (and also makes me think of what the PR campaign tried to sell when they highlighted the "crafting" system). The possibilities...

I've been having alot of fun with the settlement system.

I spent way to many hours building and tweaking an "internment" camp at the starlight drive-in where I put all my suspected synths in with a little farm and water in the middle. Then I fenced it all around and have raised walls and ramparts with guard towers and turrets facing inwards with construction spotlights (with the large construction light mod) facing inward, have "guards" all in uniform (black and red vault suit with red military berets) with plasma rifles and batons manning the towers to ensure none of those synths escape! Problem is it's getting full so I may have to construct a second camp up at abernathy farm or the island.

Once the GECK gets released and the real mods for the system start coming out, this thing could easily replace Skyrim and Civ 5 as my most played Steam game with their play times combined.

Question: If you try to pickpocket a synth, does the synth component show up in the inventory?

No. I don't even think it's there if you use showinventory in the console. It's something that appears on death.

The simplest way to solve the problem is by buddying up with the Institute. Whatever synths do that drops happiness stops immediately. Wish I'd known that a lot earlier, I would gone there at like hour 20 instead of 120.

Does that even work?
im not too far along in the main quest. and, have not had a synth attack as far as I know.
I only had one, "suspected synth at *.*" quest popup. Which was super disappointing. the resolutions for it were stupid.
1. (convince the suspect to admit being a synth)charm.
2. kill them.
3. shes not a synth.
4. I dont care. you decide. (they kill the suspect)

option 1. doesnt actually change the dialogues. . they are STILL . kill the synth, shes not a synth, and I dont care. There is no, "ok she admitted it. she doesnt want to harm you. relax." And there is NO follow up to it either.
You lie and say they arent one, so they dont get murdered.. and thats it. they make a comment about not blowing their mission or something. and you can't grill them on it. or anything. unless maybe its becuase Im not far enough down for RR or institute options to come up?

testing on her. the synth component shows up a good second AFTER they die. like if you loot them as soon as you kill them, it wont even be there. it appears a moment later.

Are you talking about the

Covenant quest? Just side with the girl who was kidnapped and murder the whole town, then you get a free settlement with walls lol

Yes, there are synth 'infiltrators' that you never get a warning about. Shit just breaks, happiness drops, etc. My Sanctuary Hills would slowly creep up to 70-75% and then instantly drop back down below 50%, over and over. It wasn't a raid that I missed*, and the moment I went to the Institute and accepted some of their quests it stopped happening. Just like random gen 1-2 synths in the wild no longer attack me. Now Sanctuary is over 80% and I haven't had a problem in like 30 hours.

*-I useShaikujins Better warning for settlements being attacked at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and communityso it's impossible to miss a settlement getting attacked now. Highly recommended along with the optional file for radiant quest expiration warnings.

Hmm, I went with the Institute ending and I noticed some small gains as well. The Vault-Tec rep was mysteriously dead behind a house, though. I never killed him and that town is very well defended, so no clue how that happened. I used resurrect on him in console because I didn't want to lose my rank 4 trader ;p

Need a mod that lets dogs detect Synths, just like in the first terminator movie where the guard dogs started going bonkers as the base was getting attacked by t-800s.
