This is a small food preservation factory I built on my land.

Farm 22 was free on epic some time back. I've got it installed as these types of sim games intrigue me but I haven't jumped in yet, expecting it to be kinda overwhelming...

I thought these games were overwhelming in the sense where they are just too "sim" for what I enjoy in a farming game.

Like there's just a ton of complexity for people who really want an accurate big farming operation experience.

I watched a few minutes of one of the videos posted a few days ago. I don't play, but I mean where else can you farm rice with a mountain in the background?

You can turn off a lot of things such as needing to de-stone your fields, weeding, fertilizing and all that. You can also turn off seasons (at least in FS22, I don't see why they wouldn't do it in this one) so that your crops can be sown or harvested whenever you want. So if you just want drive your tractor and plow fields all day then you can set it up for that more or less. You can also give yourself infinite money, so there's nothing stopping you from mucking about as you wish - at least in FS22. Kharzette Kharzette can look at the FS25 settings and see if it's the same.

I think that is true yea. I know one game in the past I turned off the lime stuff. In okieland we don't need lime as our soil is already basic.

I bought some cows. I have no idea what to do. I think water happens automagically. I put the barn in a big ass field I'd planted with grass and nuked the fence that comes with the barn so they could roam about. Now they are gone :emoji_laughing:

I've still been crazy addicted to this. My save with cows was a total disaster. I kept buying incompatible stuff like a baler that wouldn't work with any bale stuff due to an odd size, manure slinger that wouldn't work with slurry. I also got confused and thought my barn had an auto feed mixer (the red thing in the picture) but that is actually an auto milking machine.

20241127121401_1.jpg

The biggest mistake was buying all baby cows. They don't produce milk for like 3 years and I just went broke trying to feed them all.

So luckily I had made a save backup when I had just done contracts for awhile to earn up 300k. I started over there and bought the cheap dairy barn, a cheap silo, a cheap barn to store bales, and the land across the street for growing hay / straw etc.

I then made a very good decision with this tractor:
20241127184442_1.jpg

That little thing kicks ass. It will run a rotary ho that says it needs 160hp just fine. I can't do square bales with it but it works with round bale stuff / mowers / windrowers / ted theodore logan machines.

I bought a mix of ages this time so they start making milk right away.
20241130224542_1.jpg

I sold my first tank full of milk... for 2500 dollars :emoji_laughing:

It looks like I'll need to buy a dairy and make cheese and butter to really make this work. I'm completely broke but have gear to do contracts so maybe I'll get there someday.

I think my greatest moment of dissapointment with the game so far is that it wouldn't let me turn my slurry tank poo shooter on in downtown Chongching or whatever.

Random fun stuff:

Baby cows, you mean veal? You can just stuff them in a crate and be done with them, depending on which state you are in.

I finally got enough cash to plop down a diary right next to my cow field. You can smell the poop as you buy your butter!

I've turned off traffic. There was always a mysterious pileup right in front of my hay barn

Are those swath width lines and GPS tracks in the base game now? I always hated that it wasn't included in previous versions. The game knew what it was doing because hired AI could run straight with minimal overlap but it took mods to make that visible to the player.

Traffic pileups were common in previous versions. Drop off and pick up points have weird hitboxes. I think whenever you get in visual range it assumes you're going to visit the facility and stops all traffic in sight even if they're in the way. Same behavior if you use a perimeter road to turn your tractor instead of headland.

GPS stuff is in the game and works fairly well. I've used the IRL stuff on John Deere tractors and the older farm sims had a mod with exactly the same controls and sounds. I was annoyed that the built in didn't have the same sounds at least... until I got in a John Deere haha. It actually uses the GPS sound from each vehicle, pretty cool.

Seems like JD replaced the getting-close-to-the-end-of-the-row sound. It used to sound like a little dog barking.

I wonder if they will ever do euro style tramlines like they were using on Clarkson's Farm? I sorta understand how they work, they leave little unplanted spots for the sprayers to go, but we never used that on our farm. We had water furrows anyway for cotton.

The good news is, my hay barn stores Dairy output pallets
20241209061854_1.jpg

The bad news is, I built it too close to the road, so I can't smooth out the spot where it shits out things you store. When you ask it to pop out things, they flip out and wiggle about and usually end up wiggling up to the input spot and just going back in the barn.

About half of the ones that stay out have the bottom plane of the pallet under the ground, and about the only way to fix them is to ram them with 10 tons of mass going 30 mph.
20241210063912_1.jpg

Loading was damn near impossible as those stuck-in-the-ground pallets and general physics phuckery make it enormously frustrating.
20241210074508_1.jpg

I eventually got a superstrength mod so I could hand lift and place the stuff. It also let me move the underground stuck boxes back into the barn so I could attempt to crap them out again. But even with hand placement loading up a trailer took me 3 tries.

At one point I had it almost fully loaded and then I accidentally picked up the trailer with my superstrength and shit went flying. When I had it mostly loaded again I accidentally picked up the tractor. After a good 2 hours boiling with rage and a 30 minute delivery fraught with physics assgoblinry I was boiling with rage, and getting a measly 12 grand for my efforts didn't help.
20241210075433_1.jpg

So to keep my sanity I'm going to have to do 2 things: Mod up a trailer that autoloads pallets, and find a mod that lets me smooth the ground properly in front of the barn. Yay spending time outside the game to make the game work.

Some new mods came out and one is a low loader trailer that sits right on the ground. It is mainly for hauling vehicles, but I had an idea: Maybe I could stick it directly on a pallet spawn point and have the boxes appear atop it, thus avoiding glitchy forklift sim. (the two in the picture I manually put up there).
20241217092350_1.jpg

I slept a few hours and it just wouldn't spit anything out till I moved the trailer. So I tried it at my barn, but it just spits them out next to the trailer.

Guess I'll keep waiting for an autoload trailer. Also somehow this mod got approved:

There's a reason autoload trailers are some of the most popular mods. The amount of effort required for even one pallet compared to the other farm tasks is out of wack. Even hay bales eventually become tedious and I go back to a wide pickup high capacity modded forage wagon and handle it like grain.

Needing level building input/outputs has been a long time series problem and is overdue for a change. A wide brush terrain smoother usually worked in the past but if you're close to unowned property you may be out of luck.

It's one of the downsides of many simulation games, some stuff is just seriously tedious, though some people love it. I wish it were just an option to autoload trailers when you pull near an object. A bit like transmission in ETS and ATS, they have an option for full on manual, and you can get joysticks that emulate a truck gear shift. Cool if you like that, but most players just use simple automatic and just enjoy the drive.
