Theres a house in my town (I know not as bad as previous examples) that is a 300k home in a neighborhood that if any other house was worth 60k I would be astonished.

A similar factory exploded in Toulouse in 2001 killing 30ish and injuring several thousand people. The company got tried and condemned for it.

They confirmed a handful of fireman and 1 officer from the early response team deceased.
Thats kinda odd, isnt it?

Just looking on that clip should tell even a neanderthal that there's no way in hell that fire was going to be subdued, I mean firefighters are usually experienced enough to tell the difference if a fire can be put out or not.

Given also what the building contained, surely they had to know that, enough heat would make that shit blow.

That clip reminded me of something I saw on the discovery channel some years ago, about a chemical plant in Nevada that went with a blasthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KuGizBjDXo

I read that it was volunteer firefighters that were at a store nearby that rushed to it. I am guessing not well trained.

What happened to their CEO? Did he switch companies and upgraded his pay grade by 100%?

I don't think anyone sees a burning building and thinks "oh maybe it'll blow up in the biggest god damn explosion I've ever seen and fuck us up miles away."
How do people live in post 911 America and not know Fertilizer plants are giant bombs waiting to happen?

Well the problem is these towns are old as shit and those factories are the backbone of their economy. The likeliness of that company rebuilding/moving the plant when pressured by the community is probably really low since they could easily up and move to a more flourishing area and get more workers/tax breaks for the same price.

Not sure what he did between then and now, but:http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...4e5e9b2688.501

And about knowing to not stay close to a plant full of fertilizer: I live in a city that is not much bigger than Waco and I have absolutely no idea what most the plants and factories of the area are doing. If I saw one burning I my reaction would probably to go as far as possible though, I have made enough chemistry to know that an industrial accident can generate toxic fumes or gas leeks that are not visible nor odorant.

Whoever writes Obama's speeches for these types of incidents is earning his fucking money this week.

"It was a small fire and then water got sprayed on the ammonium nitrate, and it exploded just like the Oklahoma City bomb," said Jason Shelton, a clerk at the Czech Best Western Hotel in West. "I live about a thousand feet from it and it blew my screen door off and my back windows. There's houses leveled that were right next to it."
So if amateur volunteer firefighters were the first to show up, and started spraying water on the fire not knowing/realizing that ammonium nitrate explodes on contact with H2O, there would be your non conspiracy explanation for how something like this happens.

added: however, ammonium nitrate and water should create an endothermic reaction so maybe this isn't what happened we'll have to see.

added 2: but if the fire hit the ammonium nitrate in an enclosed area, then it can definitely explode, so maybe the small fire wasn't contained and reached some of the nitrate, which then exploded, lighting the rest up. Would explain the small burst before the major explosion.

You are taking what a clerk at the Best Western said as gospel. If he was a clerk at Holiday Inn you would have something there.

Well its doesn't take a doctorate in chemistry to realize that fire + ammonium nitrate = kaboom. His statement on the water causing the explosion did raise my red flags, which is why I googled it to find out if it would be exothermic or endothermic when reacting with ammonium nitrate and edited my post.

It's a fertilizer plant which for all intents and purpose is a chemical plant. Would you knowingly drive up to a chemical plant that is on fire to rubber neck?
nah. worse. its a giant fucking bomb.

I thought the general public would have known this after Oklahoma city.
