Honestly relations do need to be normalized with Cuba, because it makes the US look like a butthurt salty noob that is still QQ over shit in the 1950s and 60s. Fidel being out of the picture will help a bit, because he was still against the reunification even though his brother has been trying to push through reforms to loosen the island up.

I honestly wonder if they had any mechanism for the peaceful transfer of power, considering the way that Castro seized it. It seems to me that they've been refusing to admit castro is dead for the past five years because they had no other choice, not because they're some ideologically backwards island of commie savages.
And he died RIGHT as Obama is ready to leave office. Curious timing, if you ask me.
They must feel secure enough in his brother's authority now. But his brother is no young man, either, and I don't know that they've fixed their underlying problem of "who's the new king?".
Hopefully thought they did take the past five years to fix that problem while they were shoring up Raul's powerbase.

Every time I see anything on Cuba it looks ripe for capitalism and tourism. I think once it's out of Raul's hands we get that change. Cubans are going to cash out and leave in droves. I agree that Trump could use this to turn Florida Red for the next few elections.

Many old school Cubans yearn to return. Most Cuban-Americans born here don't. Younger generations don't really subscribe to the same values of their priors.
The Hispanic population of Florida is not growing because of Cubans. It is mostly Puerto Ricans fleeing the economic bust of their island.
