Yeah that's the 2nd edition UK release which I had after losing my original copy, pretty sure the 1st edition and launch trailer they pit on TV had that scene too.
Honestly it's really fucking cool looking and probably sold me on the game.

Well, buying the game without knowing anything about it, that picture wouldn't really spoil that she just got stabbed / died. But yeah, I certainly wouldn't have picked that picture to put on the back on the box. That said, Japanese trailers (and intros for that matter) are nearly always very spoilery. I usually skip every intro from JRPGs since they often contains scenes from the game showing the "bad guy", all playable characters, and so on. Play through a Tales game, then load it up again and watch the intro. So many spoilers. Like the final trailer for FF7 remake. I'm glad I didn't watch that until I had finished the game.
I feel this has only gotten worse for some reason. So many games, TV shows and movie trailers now showcase nearly all the plot in them. Do they not get that by showcasing a character at a later point in the game/show/movie, it removes any "danger" so to speak happening to that character up until that point? If the middle part features a dangerous "ohh, what will happen now!?" moment towards a character, and you've seen a part in a trailer featuring that character which hasn't happened yet, it voids any suspense. The final trailers of entertainment products these days are almost as if they just released the outline of the product. If Last of Us 2 was a movie, it wouldn't be a leak scandal, it would be called "Final Red Band trailer" released 2 weeks before opening day.

Having no context, no one has any idea what that scene means there. It looks like some kind of baptism/healing spring or something.
The best box art fail I remember is the back of Mega Man 2, touting the all new “save system” the game has with the passcode grid. The picture they used for the image was the code for the final stage/Dr. Wily.

It does pick up somewhat once you get around chapter 6 (I think it was that) but it is extremely linear throughout. Corridor after corridor endlessly. For reference I beat it on normal mode a few days ago and clocked in 52 hours and was level 40. I went slowly and did as much of the content as I could (haven’t gone back in to do any hard mode chapters yet).

2nd reactor mission it kind of starts to pick up steam, at least a little less of the story interludes. But in your case, I doubt you will like it no matter what

Everything is great except the 3 side quest sections which are pretty average, sounds like you've just finished the first one.
Game is amazing until you reach the town in Sector 5 Slums, then there's some more downtime.

The version on my shelf is white and has pictures of Sephiroth grabbing Jenova, the airship, and Ifrit. I think it is the first U.S. release box, not greatest hits.

I am trying to keep an open mind. As of right now, without FF7 stamped to it, it's one hell of a mediocre at best game. So I am trying to go through it in regards through another lens so to speak. Nothing else to play and will beat it and send it back since I have it, but as of now, 6/10 at best.
