Jenova's remnants being controlled by Sephiroth, yes.

But hasn't Sephiroth by then already "died" to cloud in the mako reactor so...

Okay what's the point of "ohh sepheroth died in the make reactor!" If "his consciousness" survived and overwrote Jenovah's in the life stream and could control her...if she is the source? And all the "clones" are not him but Jenovah, but he controls jenovah...so it's him but not him...so "sepheroth didn't technically kill Arieth" blabla

Yeah he didn't die in the mako reactor, and he was using either leftover parts of Jenova (or the other "clones" imbued with Jenova cells) to take his form multiple times which is what you end up chasing throughout the game until you find his actual body up at the Northern Crater. But it is him controlling it.

Here's the real question. Will I be able to complete a playthrough of FF VII remake before Cyberpunk is released the next month?

haha no you won’t. Since they are splitting up the game into God only knows how many “episodes” charging full retail for each fucking episode.

I assume it was meant to be could they finish just this release, which is supposed to still be a good bit of content despite being just "an episode".

Well, they said that the first part is a full fledged game. With that I expect 40+ hours, though could be bigger. Anything less isn't remotely a full FF game. I think my completion time on them range between 70-100 hours (grinding included).

That said, still no word from them as to how the continuation will be. Will episode 2 start right as you leave the city? Can you grind to level 99 in the first part, and start off as that in the next part? Which would be drastically different than the base game. Or will it be like the Trails games where you only transfer a few items and choices made in the game and start the next game at a slightly higher level.

Have high hopes for the first episode as FF7 is one of my all time favourite games, but I don't like the split episodes at all. 2022 for next part and 2024-25 for last? That might even be generous. And that is if they keep it at three like originally stated, which I think they backtracked on. E3 2029 - Coming this winter, PS6! Launch title and exclusive, final part of FF 7.

Did notice though how the intro from the demo didn't have any mention of being an episodic title. Just said remake.

I could see something where you can grind to 99 (or whatever cap they make), and scale you down to whatever they want you to be starting the next installment. I'm expecting a full 40+ hours based on what they've said so far, too. I'm not really worried about the episodes, I've already played VII a million times, and while I like the idea of expanding/fleshing out the story better in parts, I'm not sweating for the full release like it's going to change the overall story all that much. Don't mind paying for each one if I end up getting 2-3 great full length games in their own right, either.

They've been saying it would be episodic for awhile, and confirmed at e3 first game is just Midgar, so it's been known for months. As for release schedule of the rest, in theory you'd think the other installments would be easier with a good bit of assets done already although obviously you'd expect part 2 to be on PS 5. Maybe it's a lot different in that it's more open world compared to Midgar being more linear. I look at the fact this even happened as a bonus already so any good I get out of it will just be extra.

Problem I have with it is the lack of any information. SE is telling everyone they don’t know. We don’t know how long this first game is. So I’m sure it will be fun, but estimates for this thing are 14 hours. So if they take the full game and sell three to four episodes at 59.99 14 hours long they can suck it.

I don’t trust SE as far as I can throw the fuckers so no way in hell does this get a full price purchase. Rental from GameFly.

The demo, which appears to be the game's first chapter, runs for 45 minutes, so the length of the Final Fantasy VII Remake may be somewhere around 13.5 hours.

Haven't seen any estimates for this under 40 hours, at least not from any normal sources. Where did you see 14? I have doubts 2 blu ray discs of content would be done in 14 hours.

How the fuck anyone thinks this is going to be 3 episodes when the first one is just Midgar through Rufus being promoted. It'll be ten minimum if they keep this bullshit up, and it'll never be finished.

You should think of the game in set pieces rather than completion time.

The last two thirds of the game were lengthened artificially by travel time and grinds. Midgar was a far more robust experience.

What? Midgar wasn't even a third of the game dude, it may as well been 3.5 dungeons. It also had random encounters. When's the last time you played 7?

Rude it's hard to think you're not trolling at this point. Is the concept of them expanding Midgar WAY more than anything else that hard to grasp? I keep seeing trolls or absolute idiots think it's all going to be straight equal conversions across the entire game...oh longer Midgar by this much, the parade shit in Junon will now actually be a full 3 hour parade or something?? (insert equally stupid comparison here)

Or does the idea of "this is a good spot to expand/elaborate on the story more, so we'll spend more time on this section but not extend others the same way" seem too complex to process? I mean I could be wrong with what they actually do, but just seems odd when people seem to be completely unable to grasp that concept as even a possibility when it makes perfect sense.

or add more too each section,

The thing is, with the core of the game built how combat/spells are gonna be handled I bet the rest of the game will develop pretty fast, it's literally just "World" building after this release...

Definitely been a while. Had it on ps3 and that’s probably my last play through. Id day I have 5-7 playthroughs under my belt over the years.

As far as density of graphical assets, Midgar is definitely the richest environment in the game by far. Junon, Golden Saucer, and Temple of the Ancients combined probably don’t equal it in that regard. I’m not surprised at all that’s how they're splitting the game from a development perspective. Hell Shinra Tower itself was a massive amount of assets.

Most of the towns/story areas later in the game were only a couple screens of traversable area.

I think cosmo canyon was a grand total of 5 screens of content. (Not counting the mini dungeon obv)

Let’s not forget that a shit ton of dungeon content later on was just winding rocky cave paths studded with infinite random encounters to slow you down. That shit takes zero development time to produce. There was next to none of that in Midgar.

Will be interesting to see what they do to lengthen acts 2 & 3, because I doubt they’ll include that dated trash.

they always play his theme at distant worlds, i've been to 3 and everytime it's his theme, probably cuz it translates well with an orchestra

Wtf is memorable about any of the sectors outside of the church, the Don Corneo show and maybe Tifa's bar that you goto one time. Every sector is one or two screens with some tiny homes. We really going to go there with how assets were distributed in the towns in this game? We going to talk about the amazing mako reactors being entirely recycled outside of the entry / exit screens? The Shinra HQ, which was essentially just a "dungeon"?

And LOL Merrith, your homerism is adorable. I'd rather see more Junon over Midgar, why not further investigate Corel before it got turned into an Afghani poppi farm? They'll most likely fatigue the episodic content out and never finish a full remake.
