When I got the plat I was at ~200ish hours? Maybe 240. Honestly it's not that bad of a plat, most of the minigames I finished as they came available in game, though some are easier post game. There wasn't too much grinding post game to max out xp as you have EXP up Materia XP up stuff to put on people and the mob packs can be killed nearly instantaneously. Some of the blue materia took longer to max out, but we're talking maybe half an hour to an hour of grinding. Hard mode is easy once you max out everything possible in normal and get the damage unlock accessory and Gotterdammerung. The REAL boss of the game is the legendary VR fights. They are awesome fights but god damn it felt like pure RNG on the last one whether you were allowed to win or not. Took me a long time to figure out a setup that worked, but I'm sure there are youtube videos that make it seem easy by now.
Only pussies look up strats for those battles, good on you for banging it out. I was at 235 when I completed. Many times the grind felt pretty rough. I think that's just my age showing, but glad I kept at it.

If you do mini games and side quests without trying to rush things, you're looking at 100+ hours for a normal run (I was 110 hours in towards last chapter on my PS5 before I stopped and waited for PC, still not finished that).

Plat requires a new run with hard mode enabled as well.

It's a big game.

I'm gonna go for the plat in this sooner or later. Whenever I can take a couple weeks off in the near future (for health reasons), FF7 Rebirth is #1 on the list for what I'm gonna tackle during that timeframe.

I have like 40% trophies already from finishing the game and doing a lot of side-things. Looking at the maps, I've got a TON of unfinished doodads all over the place. Especially Nibel Region where I did like zero activities outside of the main story (think I was in "beeline to the end" mode by then). Cosmo Canyon and Gongaga aren't much better.

Not sure whether I'm going to A) Play through the game again on Hard Mode and then turn it down to Easy to go around doing sidequests and minigames, or B) Do sidequests and minigames on my existing file and then play through from the beginning on Hard Mode when it's like the only thing left (outside of the super-boss fights with Chadley which'll probably end up being the last thing, like they were in FF7R-1, they were a bitch and a half to deal with).

What do yall think? Probably do the sidequests and minigames first to get more levels/points/whatever right? I left off at like level 40 and the max is, what, 70 or so? I should probably get maxed on levels and as much side-content done as possible to give me an advantage going into Hard Mode.

What's the damage unlock accessory? And is Gotterdammerung from the VR super-fights like it is in the first one? Because if so...mehhh, wanted to leave those for last.

I guess this answers my question, do everything possible in Normal before I start Hard mode, and get those two things.

Alright, so my plan for this plat is:

1. Get everyone to level 70 (they're like 40-45 now)
2. Do all the open world sidequests and side-objectives to finish the individual zones
3. Get Genji Gloves and Gotterdammerung
4. Run through the MSQ again on Hard Mode
5. Do any miscellaneous weird stuff like arcade boxing

Wondering if maybe I should put 2 after 4. I.e. do all the open world 100%-ing in Hard Mode itself, if there are more rewards for doing it that way (weapon scrolls or whatever). Vaguely recall that being a thing in the first one. If there's nothing worth worrying about I can just do it all in my existing file.

Many sidequests do award manuscripts when done on Hard difficulty but once you get to Chapter Select you can set it to 12 or 13 and run through them all before doing a full MSQ runthrough. 13 doesn't have access to Cait Sith but lets you finish proto relics HM.

If I were to run a ton of sidequests on Hard mode at chapter 13, would the overworld be shared with my Normal mode playthrough? I.e. would I still have X amount of the map finished if I switched back and forth between them? And would I have to beat the chapter to go back to Normal mode?

Are you going for all the trophies or 100% completion? If just the trophies hard mode is just the victory lap. No need to do all the sidequests all over again. The manuals aren't necessary from HM it was purely point a to b to get through the story. Everything else could be completed in Normal w/ chapter select iirc.

Fwiw, on leveling characters to 70, defeating Gilgamesh unlocks a couple of the Brutal Challenges in the combat sim, even while still on a non Hard mode playthrough. Can easily get to level 70 on all characters just repeating those challenges.
