ahh so they don't have that hardware either. heh
From the sound of it, they have the hardware, but are having a bitch of a time actually physically getting people over to the data center to get it all setup/inspected/etc.

BFA and Shadowlands both released without any server downtime, the quest just popped. It went largely without a hitch. I believe the 9.1 release was a bit more rocky but that was more due to bad programming/bugs than infrastructure issues.Didn’t Blizzard switch over to pure cloud based and the performance has been shit since? Or is that more just rumor and guesses?
Tried to transfer to Gilg to join y'all but its listed as congested, probably cause of Asmon I guess being on the same data center
Love it or hate it, the elasticity of cloud platforms are a perfect fit for the constantly changing demand curve that plague MMOs. It boggles my mind why any game studio/publisher would want to be datacenter admins on top of developers. Even doing a cba, I have to imagine the first time you have a shitty patch launch or people can't play with their friends, it would be a no-go on hosting your own iron. Especially for a game which intends for the playerbase to come and go, hosting everything yourself in one datacenter is a retarded decision.
That has nothing to do with the cloud platform, virtual machines, or real servers: That is just preloading the content and activating it at a specified time. You can also do an instance migration to update your server code on the fly with real physical servers. Which is maybe even easier with a dedicated zone model like in FFXIV.BFA and Shadowlands both released without any server downtime, the quest just popped. It went largely without a hitch.
Zalera homies!I sill have my original toon on Gilgamesh, but I doubt I will be playing it any time soon. My main is on Zalera in the Crystal cluster, and I am just doing daily MSQ right now to get my other healers to 80 before EW. Tank jobs can eat a dick. Doubt I ever level those again.

Zalera homies!
It was a joke. We're at least on the same data center, unlike those Gilgamesh punks.Who cares? *shrug*
D Tier: Dragoon
Plays like a lv30 class, I don't know what the point of this class is yet, it's a MUCH worse version of Monk/Samurai. Jump animation locks you so you can get trapped in AoE and die.
All the healers are about the same with different strengths and weaknesses I don't care enough to write about. Scholar is the best for new/casual players since it comes free with Summoner.
I know, I work on cloud infrastructure all day. The fact remains that it's a good fit since with an MMO you will always be sitting on too much or too little hardware. You can either plan for xpac launch and then sit on a bunch of idle iron the rest of the time, or have big queues and 'congested' servers during patch/xpac releases. You can't just sit there and go "Put it on the Cloud" it takes tons of work for games like this too be even considered for cloud processing, Nevermind the fact that the game was designed when Cloud Computing was in it's infancy..
its my understanding that they were going to be launching an oceania server soon.
Part of me wonders if it wouldn't be smarter to just cannibalize that and prop up the popular datacenters more, to buy more time basically.
I think I'm missing something. Are you saying that SE should have moved FFXIV to the cloud "regardless" some time ago, because in your view it's the "correct" thing to do, and that would have solved/prevented their current issues?Marking certain servers as 'congested' and not allowing people to roll on those servers is a huge failure and they should be embarrassed / shamed for it.
Got got all the DPS classes to 50, just Tanks left to do now.
S Tier: Ninja, Black Mage, Machinist
Black Mage was so annoying until lv42 then it just clicks, Ninja jutsus are surprisingly engaging and powerful dropping lightning bolts on enemies, Machinist is the king of burst DPS and kiting.
A Tier: Monk, Summoner, Samurai
Monk has a very nice AoE rotation and lots to do on single target. Summoner was the best low level DPS and it's even better at 50 with lots of options for dots, pets or direct damage.
Not played any Samurai other than the intro quest but seems like a better Monk so far, could be S tier depending on what the AoE rotation is like as I haven't used that yet.
B Tier: Bard, Red Mage
Bard gameplay varies over time as you switch between different song cooldowns but Machinist seems to outclass it.
Red Mage is a bunch of fun when you hit the melee finisher, but it's pretty annoying doing the white/black mage build up. It can heal/raise but so can Summoner.
