Yeah that's a bit odd, considering I am running an AMD Phenom 1045t 3.5ghz 6 core, and an MSI 650ti boost 2gb stock OC, and at 1440x900 I am getting 9700. Your i7 and 760 should be a good 20% ahead of me really, unless your rocking some super high resolution.

1920 x 1080 isn't the standard?
I think your score is good for that resolution and that video card. Chysamere for sure isn't running that resolution with a score near 10k using a 460. At 1920x1200 on maximum settings I scored 8700ish using a 580gtx. Using SLI I scored 15398. They have definitely done some optimization though, my single card score is about 1k+ points over my old score. Retail can't get here soon enough.

My OCed 6970 with my i5 @ 3.4 got ~8000 at 1920x1200 so that sounds about right.

It defaults to a lot lower resolution, I had to manually change mine. I'm not super interested in the game, but the benchmark was absolutely gorgeous.

Pure maximum difference with no shadow reduction is 2862 (22.888 fps) vs 9334 (82.202 fps). Have not done any tweaks to the 760, it's still straight out of the box.
Yeah, shadow settings make a massive difference, somewhere in the 15-25% range depending on resolution. Unfortunately, it's also really noticeable when you drop a level too, unless you shut off self-shadowing on your character. I tried messing with a bunch of settings but nothing else had nearly the impact on performance that shadows do in FFXIV. Even knocking SSAO down a notch didn't do much, and that's a setting that is notorious for costing 5-10% performance for a nearly imperceptible change in image quality.

I knew the 550 was "old", but frankly it still performed above expectations during the beta. But when a single piece of hardware makes that much of a benchmark difference I don't mind upgrading only the card and holding on to my machine for another 3 years until UHD 4k resolutions start hitting the mainstream.

Must be CPU related because I've consistently scored higher than people with a worse card

Did some further testing with shadows, and I was surprised to find that shadow resolution actually has a much greater impact than soft shadows. Usually it's the other way around when you're talking about 2048 vs. 1024 shadow maps. It's very hard to tell the difference between shadow map sizes too, once soft shadows and SMAA do their work on the image. My score is well above the 7k cutoff for "extreme performance" either way, but I run all my games with Dynamic V-sync Control* on and I don't want my FPS to ever drop below 60 if possible.

Being able to import your character's saved appearance into the benchmark is a nice touch too.

* - RadeonPro feature that turns v-sync on and off depending on current framerate, to prevent the stuttering associated with having v-sync on when fps dips below 60. You're trading stuttering for tearing though, so ideally you try to make sure you don't drop below 60 at all.

So since we're playing with benchmarks, I'm soliciting ideas on what the hardware to target for an upgrade first is (I'm guessing GPU), because this score seems really low to me. Then again, I'm hardware un-savvy these days, so the rig is very likely on the lower end by today's standards.

I just set it to Standard (Desktop) and let it fly, since that seemed the most "optimal" for me. Going to High (Desktop) drops it by a good 1000 and I haven't found a good sweet spot in the middle yet. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Had some stuff going on in the background and on other monitors, but not bad I guess. Might play around with some settings and see if there's any noticeable difference or if I can get the avg frame rate up.

Good enough to keep me from upgrading for awhile, to my wife's rejoicing. Man I'm ready for beta 4!

Yeah, a GT 610 is barely above integrated graphics level of performance. I would look into getting at least a Radeon 7850 2GB or a GTX650Ti Boost as your first upgrade. If you still feel it's not fast enough you can replace your Zambezi cpu with a Vishera without a mobo swap.

So is the collector's edition mount worth having ( any benefit like other games where you skip farming / shelling out a pile of money )?

New Arcanist shit has been datamined. It's not complete and it might not be fully accurate either(the description of the carbuncles and their skills sets don't really coincide) but it's something. As I kinda expected, Arcanist is not a healer in any way at this point, other than being able to cross class Cure/Protect until Scholar.
