Making me manually type in an extra long name a gold spammer had made on a blacklist , instead of right click and ignore/report from chat option , is yet another /face palm moment.

Sigh , really ? I have to type Firminnnannnt Guiiilllessta into the blacklist box to get the spam turned off and cant right click ignore ?

Yeah, i made about 100k just selling the shards I picked up leveling to 50.
Not sure how long that will last tho.
Did you talk to all of the guilds? You get 100 shards each one you unlock. You can also do the level 1 quest for each one and get another 100.

People are dumb. Harvesting shards takes seconds and can be done at level 1 mining or botany.

Have you leveled crafting? You need an insane amount of shards in the later levels. Like 150shards per level at lvl 38, and it increases at 40 and even more at 45. I've already long used all the shards I got from the quests, had friends pool theirs for me and still had to buy some on the AH and I still need an estimate of 2500. You also can't make a new char to get them, cause you need lvl 10 to get crafting classes unlocked, so it takes a while. And gathering for no xp gain at a rate of ~10-15shards a minute? who the fuck wants to do that, gathering is boring enough as it is.

Troll, I dont think it will matter once you can make multiple characters. That's probly why they are selling so high right now

Yes, I have leveled crafting. I'm 15+ in every single craft, and a level 30 weaver, level 28 botanist, and level 18 miner.

It's not that hard to farm shards, even needing thousands. You can, at gather level 20, gather over 150 shards each 10 minutes. Yes, it is boring. They need to add something like Sanction in FFXI so you'll get shards on mob drops. But it's not -hard-. I think we had that talk here a lot in the past. Hard != Boring. Boring is worse. heh.

Obviously it's not hard, it's gathering, but it's slow as shit when you can instead open the AH panel, click 3times and have 1000more shards. Yes it costs money but the money will be made back when I hit 50 alchemy as casual players reach 50 on their main class and I can sell them books or sell them materia socketing services so they can advance their relic quest.

Oh and on the sell/don't sell, I'd say sell now when the prices are high. I assume once more people find out they're expensive they'll start farming them, especially more casual or low level people and the value will drop heavily. Crafters will still require a lot but I assume at some point bots will start flooding the markets with them too, so it'll even out and probably tank the value even more depending on how good or bad SE is at dealing with that. Botting shards is probably the most profitable thing to do for gold sellers atm, other than phishing.

Yes, if you're willing to spend a small fortune atm for shards, go for it. I think it's all relative though. While flax was up for 60g each on the AH, I still decided to just work on botany instead to get it myself. As long as I'm making some level of progress on gathering/tradeskills, that's good enough for me. But I think I have a lot more patience. It's boring, but its not that bad when I have a movie on right next to me.

We all have our own preferences for sure. And yes, I'd certainly sell now if I were not crafting. It's the one and only time I'm sure they will be this high.

I saw this game at gamestop today. Is it worth it for ps3 or should I just get it on PC?
If you plan on trying it on the PS3 at all, get the PS3 version (I'm not positive, as I don't have a PS3, but you can play on either with your account). I'm pretty sure you can buy the ps3 copy, setup your account, play, etc, then download the windows client and play on either.

That said, wait a few more days. Server capacity increase is supposed to come in "soon" and will "hopefully" fix the login congestion issues (and hopefully the instance server bullshit too).

On another note: what does alchemy make as a tradeskill? And is there an easy way to farm up shards?

Alchemy makes potions as usual, but also makes books for arcanists(both SMN and SCH) as well as wands for conjurers. It's the skill for the ACN relic precursor.

As for an easy way to farm shards, you equip a pickaxe and go outside Uldah and mine lvl 1 shit. If you mean a fast way though, then no, no fast way that I've seen, other than taking a craft that also uses the shards you want as a secondary, and joining the guild+doing level 1 and 5 quests(1 is near instant, 5 takes like a couple of minutes). You make about 20 a minute with the ward and all the special nodes unlocked in the right place, went to check. Could be a bit more but i don't think a combination of a +1 yield node and a +1 gathering try node exists, at least not that I've seen up to 40;

To play on both platforms, you have to buy both versions.

Any news on the server issues? I've been wanting to pick this up but keep putting it off since I've been reading all the issues on here.

Japanese dude named Yoshida_sl said:
I know many of you are still affected by the World login and character creation restrictions, so I would like to give you all a brief update on the progress of the measures we are taking to alleviate this situation.

Current Server Status

To ensure as many players as possible can log in and create characters on existing servers, our development and operations teams are monitoring server load and population around the clock, placing and removing restrictions with even the slightest fluctuation in numbers in order to maintain near-full capacity on each World. We are still experiencing maximum concurrent connection numbers of over 230,000 users. This number, however, has taxed some of our instance servers, and is causing unexpected down time here, as well.

Scheduled Maintenance for Wednesday, September 4 (Japan Time)

The addition of new Worlds, as well as the adjustments to the duty finder servers, will be complete as of tomorrow. We will then enter our final internal testing phase of these features in preparation. If the results from these tests are favorable, we will conduct an extended all-World maintenance on Wednesday (Japan time). Once the new Worlds are implemented and the duty finder server load has been redistributed over smaller World server groups, we believe that many of the login issues that players are currently experiencing will clear.

When Worlds do finally reopen after the maintenance, we expect a rush of players trying to log back in. To prevent any further login issues, we will be using the utmost caution when restarting each World. Please understand that there may be some congestion at this time.

The development and operations teams are currently dedicating their full resources to alleviating the issues at hand and providing all of our players with a stable environment in which to experience the realm of Eorzea.

Free Trial Extension

To apologize to our loyal fans who may not have been able to login or create characters during early access and the days immediately following launch, the development and operations teams are currently considering providing all player accounts with an additional seven days to their free trials. This includes non-legacy players from 1.0, who will be given new seven-day free trials. Trial extensions will be awarded after the aforementioned server maintenance on Wednesday. Details on the trial extension, including the extension period, will be released in a separate post as soon as they have been solidified.

We thank our fans again for the overwhelming support you have shown us over the past week. The response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn has well exceeded our expectations, and unfortunately resulted in our inability to provide the service which we originally intended. We humbly ask for your continued patience as we work to alleviate the issues as we truly appreciate all of our fans. We are very sorry for the frustration that has resulted from these problems.
