This shouldn't surprise anyone. Their approach to RMT in ff11 was just as fucking retarded.

Well there must be a certain threshold or buying from certain sellers gets you flagged while others don't.

Had a fc member send me 10k in game to help with getting crafting going along. Was like thanks but felt like I owed them something - sent tell saying they got 1 mill for 8 bucks and couldn't pass it up.

They are still online as of this morning -

So what's their process of picking
? You get flagged for 5 mill but not 1 ? Seems fairly random from the screaming I see on the forums from.

And is my 10k dirty money going to get me banned now ? Not worried just will be interesting to see how far they actually go down that money trail.

They banned people with a high amount that apparently had some connections to RMT, willingly or not, big crafter guy sells vanya robe on AH, guy who bought 5million gold off the chinese mafia buys the vania, big crafter guy account is flagged. On the other hand, other guy who sold small things might not be flagged. There's people saying they're above whatever treshold has been popping up and not banned, so it wasn't a wide x+ million ban, it's probably a combination of high gold and RMT connections. They froze everything to sort it out and not let RMT accounts move their goods/gold in the meantime. Seems reasonable enough and not that many people got banned, even though a lot of people are commenting in the threads and shit.

One of my friends just got banned with no explanation. He was like level 25, definitely wasn't cheating/buying gold, and I never saw him online unless he was actually playing. I'm getting kind of leary about giving this company my credit info.

I wouldn't :p But speaking of, anyone know the last 'free' date for those of us non legacy folks who bought and played right at release?

In FFXI they would ban every few months, so sometimes people would think they got away with it and be hit later

Bought this game with that 20 percent off coupon and $4 credit I had at GMG. I like the music and the graphics aren't bad but holy shit is this game's starter experience the epitome of every MMO quest hub grind in the past 8 years. I'm only level 10 and I've done nothing but noob crap so hopefully it gets better. Not hating it though, so that's good and I'm not as put off by the combat as others are (though the cooldown is too fucking long).

I'll keep stabbing shit with my lance and hopefully things get more interesting in the next ten levels.

The journey up to 50, and getting your epic weapon is good. The game after that is utter trash, and you realize all the poor planning that went into this game.

The game genuinely feels like the precursor to WoW. They're ten years behind the MMORPG times and have inexplicably opted to revert many of the genre's fundamental features to how they were before Blizzard improved them. I can't mention a single point where FFXIV delivers to expected standards for a 2013 game. Mechanically, the game is so extremely primitive that it's almost akin to DAoC, and the content is so basic and scarce that there isn't even really enough to engage an average, three-nights-a-week progression guild. The server infrastructure is a resounding failure, the developers have done practically nothing about anything for a month now, and the class balance is Everquest-like. Their customer service is mostly non-existent, and when it isn't, it's wildly incompetent and useless anyway.

There's nothing good about this game except that it's new and came out during an MMORPG drought where everybody was craving something new. That and the fact that they at least didn't go overboard with gimmicks (e.g. GW2's no trinity nonsense) so it hasn't over-innovated, the developers simply don't seem competent enough to make a solid game. It's sluggish, unsatisfying, primitive, and they're already inviting the ire of the playerbase by doing shit like banning people for having too much money and telling the players of the most underpowered class in the game that they're all just bad and need to do more research. I predict F2P before next summer, and in a year it'll rank amongst the likes of Defiance and TERA and other games that are never mentioned in any context other than "remember how shit this was?"

So I don't have to scan 164 pages, does anyone have a link to a decent review from a PC players perspective? I played FFXI(very briefly and casually) so I am ok with a review that focuses on a comparison. Generally speaking is it worth playing casually? Do I need to be in a pre-set uber grind group like in XI in order to progress?
