I just quit Archeage, but it left me with a lingering MMO itch. Is this a good game to jump into? Can someone give me a rundown of the state of the game, or a website that I can read about the state of the game myself? Thanks!
The is a very slow paced, PVE focused game. They try to emulate the methodical feel of the turn based games in the series with a slow GCD.
If you're into the raiding scene, the raid tiers which they release ("Coils") are extremely well tuned, to the point where the world first kills of the final bosses of each tier have been within
framesof hard enrages. The slower pace allows them to design encounters where the fight plays out exactly the same every time, putting more emphasis on memorization than twitch or reaction. Some people love it, others hate it. These have come out regularly at 6 month intervals, with four encounters to a tier.
The casual pickup style content (dungeons, etc) is pretty brain-dead simple to the point that it makes WoW LFR content look complex. The competent MMO players will not really find any value in any of it, but an extremely large portion of the player base would never be able to handle any sort of content that attempts to challenge them.
If you're going in blind the storyline and such will keep you entertained for a good 30-40 hours, which may be worth the entry cost to you with how often the game goes on sale. If you can get a good raiding group together, coil tiers will keep you entertained for a month or so every other patch, but if you can't I don't know how much value the endgame will provide to a player that likes to be challenged. I ended up quitting after clearing the first two coil tiers, but I did enjoy the process of clearing them. (T3 wasn't out at the time)
