And that will most likely be the case with 8man groups and raiding in general. I just don't think it is going to be a binary "oh no Paladin tank, can't kill this raid boss!" vs "oh a Warrior MT, can't kill this raid boss!" type situation. Nin/War vs. Pal/War vs. whatever the fuck the RM tanking nonsense was. Certain combos will have an advantage, and certain group compositions will make fights easier. But I really don't see them making the difference night and day. 100% different playstyles, while your PLD reacts to things as they happen, the warrior just sort of charges in and starts raping face with axes, using the self healing to overcome incoming dps and cooldowns to overcome spikes. At least, that's what I gleaned from literally just reading half a dozen blogs about the topic and looking at the abilities.
It all comes down to just what type of damage a boss puts out and the relative gear levels of the players. And the list of secondary abilities you can pull from various classes. Hell, Marauder might simply be 100% better as a tank than anything by being able to grab defensive cooldowns from all classes and still doing great AE damage. The P4 blogs I looked at didn't have any of that stuff finalized.
Think you're spot on with most of that. Only point I'm making is that historically Warrior/Marauder was verging on/often was a DPS class that could tank. If you've got stuff on farm or it's not hard then sure tank with a Warrior. But why would you use a tank that needs significantly more healing for tough content or content that you're learning ?
Don't think this will ever happen mate. Warriors and Marauders can't even equip Shields.
I could be wrong about all of this but I'd suggest it has a high probability of being the case.

Yeah, it seems that there will likely be several paths to getting most bosses dead. Wouldn't really make sense to pigeonhole every tank into becoming a Paladin as it would render the job system somewhat less relevant.
I'm going the Warrior route myself. They just look more versatile to me at this point. I may level a Paladin as well, but not sure I want to bother putting the effort in to two tanks. That's a lot of gear to worry about.

True, but they can generate shields for damage absorption as a skill, which is useful.
Whelp , on vacation with wife/kids , figured after a whole day or more has gone by I'd be able to just login and enter my early access code this morning while waiting for them to wake , as sure they'd have web traffic handled by now.
I see error 3 is still in firm control.
I don't forsee good things for early access load this weekend.
Really like the game , their support though from 3102 to this ? Not exactly confidence inspiring.
(side note , why wait till a few days before launch to allow folks to enter a preorder access code ? kinda think that would be common sense to have that done a bit earlier )

Because their billing systems were not in place. They likely had a small server internal to the square enix officers handling the access/account authentication for the beta that they knew would be unable to handle the load of live. And they've most likely moved their account server off to a dedicated data center.
I'd say it's fairly idiotic to wait to have such billing systems only in place a few days before launch. Not really any way to excuse that for a company as large as SE.
I can list off 10-20 mmo's in the past years that had similar preorder codes from Amazon/Gamestop/BB etc with some perk. And I can remember none that I couldn't put that code in weeks before launch , if not months.
Isn't most gear GLD / MAR / PAL / WAR (or disc of war for jewelery and the like)? I don't think you'd need separate gear until you're already max level tier anyways? And if you're max level, what else is there to do besides farm gear anyways...
BTW Ant , if don't mind a quick question (or anyone else ) , since I've been zero internet till this morning , a little googling has people screaming about the few who did get their preorder code go through are fucked because it gave them an EU instead of NA code to input in the email you should get ?

I'd say you're pretty much fucked if you want to do anything on the internet.
Having a hard fucking time believing this shit is load based considering its 6am and my code is rejecting almost instantly with error 3 now. Add that to the fact that my wifes code is simply spitting out "invalid code" and GMG is telling me that its because of server load is really pissing me off.
I guess bottom line after the FFXIV effort to shutdown the game and redo it , I'd have thought they would make sure to put their best foot forward on whatever they could control , like preorder registrations.

Reddit is working overtime being reddit. Doesn't take much for them to manufacture bullshit. I mean, did you see their group in /shout all over the place claiming that Gilg is "their" server, and trying to run people off? It was a bad joke.
Actually waiting till a few days before launch to allow na-eu to input preorder codes that have been going out for months is stupid. The delay isn't bad - the timing on their part and decision of how to handle it is.
Also not raging here , nor sitting around pummeling the site - will try tomorrow.
I just think if I got a second shot at a business of any kind after getting raped like the original FFXIV did in sales and reviews , Id make sure to put my best foot forward in every way I could. And this is one of the few things they could have had knocked out weeks ago.
