The pressure in those balls is going to be at least several PSI above ambient atmosphere; like a balloon, the elastic material exerts an inward force. Their heads are on the outside, at ambient. There is now a pressure gradient driving blood into their head. It's an exaggerated version of what happens if the neck seal on a dry suit is too tight. Good way to get petechiae in the eyes, or possibly even a stroke :-/ Then again, that's probably not their most-used organ.
