I'm not a die-hard Apple fanboy, but I do think having the security lock prevent wiping using iTunes is a good improvement. The ease with which any stolen, locked-out iPhone could be restored to out-of-box condition was pitiful. Who /doesn't/ like a little scorched-earth policy now and again?

Apple recently launched the latest top-end model of its wildly successful iPhone, the 5S, to much fanfare. But a German hacker organization has thrown a wrench in the works by bypassing the smartphone's much-heralded fingerprint scanner just two days after launch.
